    A military HumVee and a consumer Hummer are very different vehicles and have very different standards of quality. The DoD HumVee is a very different machine designed for military manoeuvres. The consumer hummer is a rod hog with a standard pickup truck engine.

    They wouldn't do so because by opening up their networks without all others doing so, the business benefit would disappear quickly. They'd be paying costs for maintenance on their lines when everybody else is using them and not sharing theirs.

    If the FCC mandates it, everybody does it all at once and the business benefits (if any) become balanced.

    After all they had to create a 6000 page document without releasing any information on how to make their "open" standard work. There are so many statements like "functions as per Word 95" without explaining what that means. They must have worked long hours creating a specification that doesn't actually specify how to implement it.

    IBM is being a big bully and not allowing Microsoft to screw the public and private companies of the world as Microsoft wants to.

    Right now, unless it's a top hit in the States, we in Canada have to wait years to see an American cable or other TV production. So if movies are delayed, I'll lose my reason to go to the theatre, just like I don't watch broadcast TV anymore.

    Dungeon Keeper was a great game with a simple premise. Dungeon Keeper II forgot that adding Mega-3D graphics and a storyline that nobody would care about doesn't make the game better.

    Adding new monsters and more flexibility was needed.

    Wow. Your entire post was a fud filled ad for this product.

    Mplayer does just work. If you want it pretty, it's called gmplayer and it nicely integrates with Gnome, KDE, Fluxbox, whatever. It can nicely integrate with almost any theme based environment due to it's rather nice theme engine. I'm not sure what you're talking about by calling it a "geekish" app.

    It is in full development, they're just trying to stabilize for version 1 (after years of beta, it's nice to see). As for the legalities, you just can't distribute it. Nobody said you can't download and install it. It will also compile on a vast variety of hardware and includes a fantastic number of codecs either built-in or through ffmpeg.

    You can stick to gstreamer if you like, it's good software but don't for a minute think that anything else you posted was true.

    Not that it wouldn't be nice for some but I really don't want to listed to 20 people's conversations all at once in a plane for 5 hours.

    The only benefit I can see is hooking up to the high speed data network and web surfing for my entire flight.

    Nobody is so important they can't be unreachable for a few hours.

    Just think about it, mandatory identification for your protection. It's just like the passport idea but on-line.

    Actually, Radio Shack is not "The Source", the company that ran the Radio Shack stores in Canada lost rights to the Radio Shack name for various reasons. They're full name is "The Source by Circuit City". Radio Shack is returning slowly but surely to Canada.

    Proof? Go here Make sure you boycott the right stores.

    If you be come their DNS resolver then you have control over any site they want to visit. Just turn everything except what they need to null.
