True, and unlike some people, I am hoping, but probably against fate that BeOS won't go multiuser. I was under the impression that they wanted a top-notch Desktop OS, good for things like graphics, but very specifically designed around that with minimal multiuser/internet server stuff.. I like BeOS as is, without the unneeded burden of multi-user for its purposes... It's a good OS, but if they stretch it too far, the would probably degrade it..

I don't think you would want to use a windows operating system for that, you need something more reliable.. Of course, in this case I don't think linux is appropriate either, FreeBSD might be closer, but in truth, this application shouldn't use a general purpose operating system but a specialized one that would be most efficient, it's not as cost-effective for producers, but would result in a better product. I have the same complaint about new gaming systems using operating systems like Windows CE..

I think ftp.cdrom.com alone should be enough to convince people of FreeBSD's perfomance/reliability. I nearly worked with a company who did all compiles on clusters of FreeBSD machines, uptime was over a year when I got there... I think more people should be singing FreeBSD's praise, but I'll still be running linux on my personal system for a while to come, maybe one day I'll install FreeBSD again..

Maybe I missed something in the article, but I did not see much of a discussion of user-interface friendliness. NT is a bit more user-friendly and has more unified appearance.
