Oh yeah. If, for instance, you take the Dell/Intel branded mini-PCI card out of a 600m and replace it with one not made by the same folks it disables all wireless stuff in the bios. Granted, the "unauthorized" card still works....but due to the BIOS' involvement in the usb style bluetooth chip, bluetooth is disabled altogether. No word from dell on a fix or work around or bios flash.
I'd like to point out to everybody that this is a moot point. You CAN get the update regardless of version a regardless of whether you have pirated your copy of XP. Just see: this to download the appropriate version of the update.
Umm...you guys do realize that www.snapgear.com has had embedded, ipsec/iptables equipped routers based on linux for years right? They're enterprise quality and I've had several deployed for over a year. This isn't new, nor is it exciting. Also, embedded implies that its not x86...or using a hard drive. This is a mini-itx based "router" running a distro that has no business being used as such.
Thats all well and good. Sure, get my money now, too bad I'm buying a desktop within 3 months...and guess what I had *planned* on buying? Yeah, thats right. The latest/greatest ATI card availible. I'd spend...ooh say $400 (rough guestimate) on this card....and they won't be getting that money any more. Sure, I'm screwed now (sorta), but they'll be screwed long term when everyone goes and starts buying nvidia again. Shame. I kinda liked the sound of the word "Radeon". Geforce9FXDDRZZJ, or whatever ugly ass name they use, will be my new desktop card. =P
I just bought a laptop with their graphics chipset BECAUSE of linux support. ATI better do something, quick.

Umm why on earth does a linux based mp3 player not have a way to sync or simply download music from linux itself? Or did I miss that while crawling all over their site?
Perhaps stripped down was the wrong phrase...it loads some of the mozilla libraries but its actual memory foot print is smaller and it IS faster in all respects. Thats in addition to being more stable and supporting more plugins (i'm gussing here) than that Phoenix browser.
Ever heard of a monopoly? how about the fact that they deprive artists of much deserved revenue? I'll gladly pay $5 directly to the artist for a CD (which is more than they get now). I'll gladly pay $5 more to all the leeches that attach themselves to artists (RIAA and co) to get them to shut up. What I won't do is be bullied into $20 a CD or take my collection offline.
i don't see sharing files as a way of life but more of a protest against an industry that charges too much BECAUSE its overgrown and inefficient. if their sales dip maybe they should take the hint that we won't overpay anymore. we have 2 choices: overpay or download for free. give us a third option that lies in the middle and all this nonsense will stop. I don't want to steal but when the government overlooks blatant abuses of power by organizations that border on monopoly status, its up to us (the citizens) to punish the offender and show them the right way.

I had a CS teacher in high school who had to get the standard AP libraries off the college board web site. Now, instead of downloading them through some normal fashion (shift+click sounds good to me) he (get this!) printed every page and hand typed every header and library source over the summer.
We all were very impressed when late May came around and nobody had encountered any problems with the foolishly reproduced libraries. I was the farthest ahead of the class in the assignments so i started working with APVector but kept getting odd (changing) compile time errors that pointed to various parts of my code. After days of frustration I determined that my code (most of which was reused anyway) had no syntax flaws in it despite the compiler's insistence.
Under some divine inspiration, I decided to try compiling on my linux box to see what g++ had to say about my code. It complained about the APVector library, which made a lot more sense and was consistent. FINALLY I got the idea to check the actual AP library and see if my idiot teacher made a mistake. Surprisingly enough he had. There was a forgotten semi-colon about 15 lines down. To this day he insists that it wasn't his fault.
found out that its C++ getline function wouldn't return EOF in time for a loop I designed. turned out it compiled on every other system i tried but MetroWorst kept segfaulting every time i ran the program. took me 3 days to figure that one out and I had to beg my teacher to let me compile it at home so that it would work.
At the computer club at my high school about 10 of us would get free run of the mac lab and play marathon for hours. Lots of fun.

my g-shock (which is indestructable by the way) had a nice big soft plastic button underneath the display on the watch face. It activated the indiglo-style light for 5 seconds without constant pressure. This was like 10 years ago and only cost $50...
In summary, I'm not impressed. Especially for $600.
When I try to download eval software, 99% of the time its because I need it now, not in a few hours. If you don't send out that confirmation e-mail right away and there are competitors' software availible instantly, I'll just go with their software. Its that simple.
for $99 including shipping, i bought one. I always said palms were cool but I couldn't justify spending so much money on them. Now i can't justify not having one.
I say fuck backdoors. The second I hear of any of my software implementing a backdoor I will never upgrade that product. Worst case scenario, we all have to use gpg since the government can't regulate it. The government can lick my sack.
If everyone remember Scour Exchange last year, there was a free/OSS client for linux. I submitted a patch that made searches more efficient, erased incomleted/cancelled files, and implemented the idea of keeping "in progress" downloads separate from finished downloads. Two months went by with me writing to the author of the free scour client and asking when he was going to implement my changes (by typing one command no less!) and he never replied. I guess I never really got steamed because about 2 after I wrote the patch scour went offline. I could see this kind of thing happening with a lot of projects
Good Christ this is insanity. I say all the passport users out there file a class action agains the bastards. Lets bring some attention to all this people. Its ourageous
What kind of console system _REQUIRES_ network based game authentification? I can't belive that sony is actually going to make everyone who wants to play future games on their ps2 get a network adapter and have an availible phone line whenever you want to play your game. Might as well get a real computer if you're gonna have to share a phone line each time you use the damn thing.
I agree, but doesn't it worry you that one day they *might* make DRM that can't be broken? Sure, its not likely, but what if?

Galeon is mozilla stripped down...its faster than ie in most cases and already on a stable 1.2.x release...
