We are running out of low hanging fruit when it comes to engineering applications of scientific research. It now takes great leaps in discovery to give incremental improvements in technology. But sometimes these incremental improvements can still significantly impact how we live.
For instance, one incremental improvement we will soon see is speech recognition that is better than a human listener. This will take significant increases in computing power, natural language processing algorithms, and other advances. The difference between today's Siri / Cortana and this new speech recognition technology will be relatively minor compared to where the technology was 30 years ago, but the science behind the advancement will be light-years ahead.
This is how technological advancement will work from now on. Anything we guess will take 5 years will take 20, but anything we guess will take 100 years will take 30. IMHO that is.

In truth their specific method will probably never work at the scale of the entire human brain. Instead the future technique to accomplish this will make the task seem trivial at its inception.
Another likely possibility is that we advance our knowledge of the brain far enough to improve upon it long before we can recreate it. Similar to how we don't have flying cars yet because there simply isn't a good enough reason to have them, we may never model the human brain digitally because we find such as exercise to be pointless. We may create a far better way to extend consciousness beyond our current physical limitations.

While you are probably just intentionally exaggerating, a multiple choice test does not give any student a 25% chance at an A (assuming 4 choices per question). That would only be true if there was only one question. With even 2 questions, the chance of even passing drops to 6.25%. With 3 it drops to 0.156, and so on.
I would agree it is much easier to write a crappy test when it is multiple choice though. Poorly thought out answer choices can give clues as to which options to rule out. I have taken many tests where almost every question could at least be reduced to a 50/50 chance without knowing the answer at all.
A well written multiple choice test can be just as difficult to pass as a long answer or essay exam. One obvious tactic is to determine how students might make mistakes in the problem, and then have that wrong answer appear as a choice. Another great option is to take off points for every wrong answer, so students are forced to leave questions blank instead of guessing.
Even though MIT's intent is to make student selection easier, they will still have strong incentive to put significant effort into the selection process. The best thing MIT has going for it is that it admits a higher percentage of elite students than other schools.
Don't tear down neighborhoods to build commercial zones. In fact, make a concerted effort to keep a sensible ratio of residential to commercial zoning and the housing prices don't shoot through the roof.

These graphs show just how sharply this R&D spending has diverged between private and public sectors. Private R&D spending was only double public spending in 1950, while it is closer to a 10x difference now.
It is a good thing that research done by the public in the 1900's spurred such technological growth. It was basic research done by the government that gave the private sector technologies mature enough to make their R&D spending more profitable. The private sector has continued to acknowledge the importance of R&D spending, while the public sector has tapered off.
As long as this continues, I think we will find more of our best minds will continue to create companies like Facebook and WhatsApp instead of creating the next technology as revolutionary as the Internet itself.

The primary selling point for these larger tablets is as a laptop replacement, not just for use as a tablet. If I were to buy an iPad Pro or Surface Pro, it would be so I could do work on it. This means being able to run XCode / Visual Studio at a minimum.
A good keyboard is essential for any real coding.
I have never found a laptop keyboard that was good enough for long duration coding either. That is why having a docking station is also a prerequisite for any laptop replacement hybrid tablet.

This device is being marketed as being a productivity tool, not just a media consumption device like other tablets. A better analogy would be:

Desiring XCode on a tablet is irrational.
The primary selling point for these larger tablets is as a laptop replacement, not just for use as a tablet. If I were to buy an iPad Pro or Surface Pro, it would be so I could do work on it. This means being able to run XCode / Visual Studio at a minimum.
A good keyboard is essential for any real coding.
I have never found a laptop keyboard that was good enough for long duration coding either. That is why having a docking station is also a prerequisite for any laptop replacement hybrid tablet.
