Some of us need power for our computing clusters; some of us need battery capacity for their laptop I didn't compile a kernel for a while, but last time I lost myself in menu-config and I saw I could build Linux kernel for a high consuming datacenter or for my laptop It is a legitimate choice to compile Linux kernel to enhance calculus or to save my battery on my laptop is it really Linux kernel that increase power consuming or is main stream Ubuntu with Gnome Applets burning Watts for nothing ?
On my apple laptop I quit energy-vorous applications like Google Earth, and lower down contrast to get more left battery time. And it works I would hate that the seismic cluster of my Institute get less cylcles but if power is a constraint (think about japan crisis) I know I could fix my Linux kernel to be more energy-saving. And I am quite confident I could get the better ratio. On my laptop I've to choose the best distro. Who could help me?
I've done upgrade this week end. Hard time with a small partition on hard drive (4Gb) and troubles with the USB key (my CDROM is ooo) with 9.10 to boot (dynamic casper partition/cow on wrong hard drive ID) My Medion 2.4Ghz with P4 laptop is now running karmic. Hibernate run succesfully after 2 reboots (???) It seems that compiz is more stable with the radeon 9000 now. The fresh install doesn't accept my exotic Wifi PCMCIA card more the before. But even ndiswrapper manual install failed on this.
It's not faster than before but more stable when swithing fast from desktop to another. So, it's not a bad update for old hardware (6 years old)
When can you recognize a slashdotzeimer? - When admins post more than 2 dups week (3 last week) - When readers have too much, too often posts to read and forget it's a dup or when the they start a new post-war about dups, and so, trolling the dup of yesterday?
The posts feeds are getting shorter, it should mean that./ readers know don't forget the point of Godwin

edonkey 2000
has never been mentionned. it's not open source, it's not GPL, most of eDonkey's users run under Windows, but it works well (P2P, search engine & download engine are separated, file segmentation and multisource downloads).
How many/. readers knows/uses it? Are there too much security holes?
1. I alway rip the CDs at 1x speed or I get "blit", blut" noises, even with brand new ones. Did someone experienced good results with higher speeds? 2. I Tried AudioCatalyst Demo (with variable encoding rate or fix rate) but I always get "shlimp shliump" noises with mpg123, X11amp or even Winamp. So I still use mp3compressor. 3. I'm using 128Kbits/stereo rate. Some friends of man said thet the resulting music can't be earable whith headphones. Am I already dumb ?

It would be clearer if he bans 4.3.0 : the whitehouse is copying the EzPublish french site

What if the drill was to put people in safe bunkers (like WTC basement?) and let them be a target for .. (do you prefer China or Iran as suspects) ?
' Seems that USA govnt is preparing for WWIII. Somethings smells rotten on planet earth.

1 coder and 8 PCs is enough : Gigablast
May be you should try with IPv9 (RFC1606) or TCP Planet
(Performance of TCP Protocols in Deep Space Communication Networks TCP-Planet: A Reliable Transport Protocol for InterPlanetary Internet)

with www.google.fr I get no ads (because there's too few french advertisers for Google?)

I agree with you but analog tapes are not indefinitely reproduceable so it's not a threat as digital music.
