    oh puh-lease. what the companies have contributed is arguably a helluva lot of cash for coders to work on free software, free webhosting and more PR for linux. always a good thing. youre just bitter cause VA screwed you over sourceforge but face it bub - a lot of us get free webhosting and dev tools because of slashdot and it benefits the community in turn. what have *you* ever done except propaganda (which you shut down) ? These companies have to turn a profit, but they also do help the community.

    since the code isnt released and only exe's are available why hasnt gnutella died out yet ?
    and anyway, what we really need is something like an eternity server - stuff you post up stays in their forever and theres no way of deleting it.

    moron. even on my dual 500 with 768MB RAM the system still cant do everything i want it to. like seamless audio/video in the background, compiling on seperate windows, java stuff etc etc. more ram will only take you so far. then you need CPU horsepower.

    they changed the interfaces. that caused DRDOS to fail under win3.1 and stacker had data corruption under doze simply because they changed the API. yes, they deserve to be whacked around for doing things like this and im glad they're going to be severely thrashed.

    they arent that fast. I've got a 9000 class *server* and its slower than my dual 500 abit bp6. parisc stuff is sloow.

    have you had a look at how many companies m$ has killed simply by buying over or running out of business ? I *hated* m$ the minute they killed off stacker (and released their cruddy doublespace shit) by chaing their APIs and doing all kinds of under the table bullshit. then they wiped off DRDOS (another of my favourite OSes. micro$hit has done more harm to the industry than any other company.

    I2C device stuff wasnt mentioned..its in 2.3.x right now (hardware monitoring etc) and it should be in 2.4 as well.

    he already said yes you twit. ive had the same problems. in related notes it didnt recognise my network card ( a compaq one built into the mobo - linux picks it up instantly ). the single user OS part of Be sucks anyway, time to go back to unix.

    he did...a long time ago. its not hearsay since ive seen his site which was sourceforge before sourceforge.net existed. VA evidently pissed him off by doing a code and site grab. with no acknowledgements.

    Download the co-pilot emulator and simply capture the screen to disk from the menu. see developer.palmpilot.com to download. yes, theres one for linux too.

    he had a disagreemnt with VA regarding sourceforge's code (the stuff that runs the sourceforge.net site)..more details cna be had by lokking really hard in the old /. archives.

    it touches some nerves. i'll give poag the chance to explain himself if he wants to..he's probably reading this article anyway. if you want to dig around go back through the archives to poag's rant on the subject..its around 3-4 months back. the thread (which i also replied to BTW) explains most of it.

    its dead now ... poag was having ego problems with VA. its a collection of wallpaper an stuff..nothing i'd consider real important, but it was probably to some people. i wish poag would get off his high horse and quit bitchin about VA. ok..so he got screwed over at sourceforge..but so what ? VA open sourced sourceforge anyway.

    its true im afraid. A poke instruction into IO ports changed the horizontal timing. On some PETs it speeded up the system. On others, it toasted the monitor. You could do the same thing with the original mono screen on the PC. ASR-33's EOU (End Of User) character and RBT - Rewind and Break Tape are some other instructions.

    there was a hoax a while back about a virus that could flash colours invisibly on your monitor causing you to have an epileptic fit (this was in the days of CGA/hercules mono screens)...

    hmm..how does this work ? I have apps ive not been working on because they do everything i need them to. however, do they qualify as unmaintained ? I add any patches sent to me and answer email but thats it. no new features. should i drop em off at your site ?

    if we had nuke rockets or at least spent R & D developing safe ways of using nuclear power for rocket engines, we'd be halfway across the galaxy by now. chemical fuels arent going to get you anywhere - either now or later. and no commercial ventures are going to explore space - they want returns NOW and they aint gonna get it.

    install only the A and N series and select ask for each package in the install. i've crammed it down to 30 megs with full networking (lpd, httpd, ftpd + ethernet stuff + ppp,slip) and basic stuff. and ive installed it on multiple 386/486 boxes with 40 meg hdd's and 8 megs RAM. works great too. i recommend slack 4 or 3.5 instead of the flashy stuff (7.0)...
