These guys are all trolls. forget em. on #linuxhelp which is the only help channel that really matters, no one is kicked out for a dumb question. and we get hundreds of newbies. all of us help out as best we can. and very few of us tell em to RTFM. The newbie crowd is only going to go to friendly channels...thats one reason efnet has been dumped and everyones switched to irc.linux.com....
to show the sex scene you have to show her vagina and his penis. big no no for an R rating. the dentata piercing the guys sensitive region aint gonna be shown.
i'll second this one. the most least popular classes at my ex-uni and ex-school were the ones which had free thinking involved - pick your own project and do whatever you like. Those were the only ones at which everyone actually learnt something..since we were graded on the final outcome as well as each lecture (did your project work ? did the class approve of it ? were your presentations/research papers decent ?) it was difficult as hell but damn good fun. one good idea was to have everyone present 4 different proposals as small research papers/presentations and let the class vote on the final project to be selected. my own research presentation went on for 4 HOURS (and bored everyone silly - the average was about one hour) but it was a helluva learning experience..if youre interested in something you learn more.
they cant really do anything. supposing i sit around all day clicking around dilbert.com..whats the max they can do ? yell at me for staying on that site (and then i know that they know what im doing - therefore i can start searching for monitoring devices) or fire me (i'd quit from a company like that anyway).

RedHat 6.2 - RSN

heh. hopefully redhat will have cleared its errata list for 6.1 before 6.2 comes out officially..one thing that really bugs me is the errata coming out straight after the iso hits the servers and is pressed on cd.
open source coding has been available waay before linux and was available at universities waay before anywhere else. to compare it to a crap mainstream pop culture is degrading at best. and its not just a simple fashion trend.
wasnt this one way to break passwords in some old systems ? you would cycle through the letters one by one and with a page fault you could know which was the right letter at one position. this reduced the work greatly.
it shouldnt be too bad. emulators usually work at 1/4 the CPU speed so a 600MHz alpha will feel like a 100Mhz pentium at worst..which is pretty usable for most stuff.
yeah. how the heck are they going to show a 15 year old girl having sex with an older man ? or the gooey parts (the dentata) ? or the carrier enterprise as a raft for refugees ? or the guy with the wires stuck into his brain or getting his head chopped off ? The movie will probably get a triple X rating if made properly. more likely they'll turn it into a mission to mars rehash.
The fact is that coca cola the company has [a] more lawyers [b] a registered trademark [c] lots of money to litigate and [d] lots of time. Why not just register cocaine.ch or something which cant possibly be trademarked ? Its a helluva lot better than fighting coca cola forever. yes, it sucks, but the bigger guy with the baseball bat usually wins.
MySQL doesnt provide half the functionality of oracle. where are simple things like sequences ? (and no autoincrement doesnt count as a real sequence function). it may be fast, but it provides zero built in functions...you have to do *everything*
You would be better off comparing AmigaOS to QNX or OS/9..both can boot off floppies and QNX comes with a web browser and a desktop environment all on a single floppy. these are all RTOS derivatives. and they're all stable. I dont know why the amiga crowd tries to hang on to an outdated platform..guys, theres no further use for it. give up.
i'll second that. get a job you want and then gradually switch the company over to unix. its a lot better to make your own job (and become an admin at the same time).
There is no central store keeping all the source code from all the projects on freshmeat and there is no infrastructure to regularly archive the source from universities (where the code is usually deleted after the users leave the unis). We need a real backup system for the net effectively. something like several hundred gigs of optical or some other permanent storage, a fast net connection and a crawler to do the backup.
yep. besides i love all the different flavours of unix and im not going to give up my irix, solaris, linux, bsd, osf/1, aix, ultrix and hp/ux anytime soon.
the main thing is that there is no itch to scratch. its boring doing databases.
umm..linux boots fine on a sparc box with 16 cpus. and it sees and uses them all. learn before posting.

IBMs CHRP is supposed to allow you to buy one like that. last announced date was a coupla months ahead i think.
uuh. youre right about most of it but NT is a Windows/VMS hybrid not a windows/unix hybrid. vms != unix.
umm..yeah so ? go to www.anonymiser.com and connect to slashdot. anonymisers ip will be logged, not yours.

of course theres :
lambda.moo.mud.org - lambdamoo the granddaddy of all moos.
nice to see M-Net staff on /. ..its kewl that m-net has survived this long which most of the others died. i've been on m-net for a while myself.
