Would Mandrake, Suse should partner with a HPQ to create a desktop computer with linux bundled with it ? maybe that would work. if more end users use it then more software companies would create more user friendly apps. Software companies don't want to create for linux b/c there aren't enough users. then again maybe IBM should have spent more money developing end user apps. More LUG's and similiar groups should be advocating and helping companies/users convert to linux.
there is a great group in NYC that advocates Free software on the desktop it is NYLXS . I am participant in the group. We are trying to create a desktop for Accountants.
i feel that ximian has been doing some good stuff to make linux easier to use. they have ximian setup tools which can help many end users. By making system configuration easier, i think it might help linux grow on the desktop
this is probably repetitive the best thing about linux is that it allows companies to create devices without the pain of developing a whole system. it reduces the cost of the device to the consumer. the best example i feel is probably tivo.
This just another revenue stream for baseball owners who can't control their own finances. I believe the arizona diamondbacks owe about $200 million dollars to banks b/c they overpaid for players. Many of the baseball owners are crying poverty to the players association. however, there are some teams that don't earn that much money compared to larger market teams. Yankees get at least $55-$60 million in local cable broadcast alone. While smaller market teams barely get $10 million for radio rights to their games. I hope that this subscription helps even out the revenues of smaller and larger market teams.
anybody have any guess who the donor is?
Mysql 3 supports foreign keys and transactions if you use innondb tables. i would love to see the next version of mysql have store procedures.
