    >> Microsoft, GE, the National Council of La Raza, the National Association of Manufactures, and the National Science Teachers Association

I see 2 corporations, 2 associations and one racist council (La Raza stands for "The Race"), members of which frequently advocate for re-conquering "Aztlan" (the american southwest, California to Colorado) and ceding control back to mexico. "The Race" has a large overlap with Mecha, a group that has the motto "For La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada", translated meaning "For The Race, Everything. Outside The Race, Nothing".

If you are so afraid that you need to carry a gun to work with you, then you may want to consider moving to a safer area.

What utter horseshit. what if you're poor and can't afford the safer area? You can't defend yourself because you work a menial job, or went into bankruptcy after a major medical condition. Guns are the great equalizer and everyone deserves to have them and defend themselves.

Osama bin Laden was western educated and quite smart. al-Zawahiri is a surgeon. Mohammad Atta was an architectural engineer. 12 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 had a college degree. In fact, one study showed that 60% of terrorists born/raised in the west had engineering backgrounds and terrorists in general are wealthier and more educated than their countrymen. These are not dumb people. Sure there are goat fuckers mixed in there, but it is an epic mistake thinking these people are backwater hicks. http://www.slate.com/articles/...

no, it is not anti-muslim. it is anti-islam. there is a big difference. You aren't "born" a "muslim" the same way you are born straight/gay or white/brown. Islam is a belief system, one that you have to conscientiously adhere to. It is fair to criticize a belief system, or the actions of people like Mohammed. It is not fair to criticize someone for being born gay.

  10. Drakes Equation is bullshit on Aliens Are Probably Everywhere, Just Not Anywhere Nearby · · Score: 1, Troll

Calling it an "equation" is a gross injustice as it implies that it is "science". It isn't. We don't know the ACTUAL percentages for ANY of the probabilities used in Drake's Equation. The only variable in Drake's Equation that we have the slightest idea about is the first one R* - the average rate of star formation. FFS, it has only been 10 years since we could actually detect a single plant outside of our solar system. And mind you, unless we know EVERY SINGLE PROBABILITY in the equation, it is rendered moot because if one of the unknowns is 0% the whole fucking result will be a big, fat, zero. This guy is a fucking quack. Michael Crichton has an awesome essay/speech about how this misunderstanding of Drakes Equation has made a whole generation of people ignorant of what real science is - the creation of testable hypothesis. 12. Thermal Mass on Past Measurements May Have Missed Massive Ocean Warming · · Score: 1

FWIW, the world's oceans have ~274 times the mass of the atmosphere (1.4e21 / 5.1e18). Meaning if 1 degree C of atmospheric warming all went into the ocean, the ocean would warm up .003 degree C. Sorry. I just don't buy that we can say that the oceans as a whole have warmed up by that amount with any degree of certainty. Assuming we could, this seems like good news as I don't think that the oceans warming by .003 is going to effect jack shit.

  13. offgassing is a function of pressure on Numerous Methane Leaks Found On Atlantic Sea Floor · · Score: 2

The average depth of the ocean is ~4000 meters. Sea level has gone up, what, a few inches? Fuck. For argument sake call it 2 whole meters. According to Wolfram, The water column pressure for 4000m is 392.266 bars. the water column pressure for 4002m is 392.462. Are you saying that two-tenths of a bar is going to make an appreciable difference in the freezing point of methane? Same goes for temperature. The mass of the oceans is ~1.33 x 10^21 kg. The mass of the earth's atmosphere is 5.14 x 10^18. Meaning that even a 2C increase in atmospheric temperature that ALL went into the ocean, the ocean will warm up a whole .002 degrees C. If two-thousandths of a degree. This is just ridiculous to think that either of these things make a lick of difference to how much methane the bottom of the ocean expels.
