The only thing i can say to that is that i know a lot more "ordinary" people who run a Linux server (apache server or whatever) than people run a Windows server at home. (and "ordinary" people don't look for security fixes every day)

  5. There might be some reasons on WinInformant Says Windows More Secure Than Linux · · Score: 1

In my opinion, the reason for this is that Linux is more used in a non/less-commercial way than WinNT/2k.
WinNT/2k admins have money to buy that OS, so I suppose they also have more money/time to spend on security (and use it in a more professional way).
Some linux boxes on the other hand are "hacked" together, and thus not always secure. Maybe the popular fact that "linux is more secure than windows" makes them believe they are not vulnerable.

This is totally wrong. In the US (and Japan) most of those projects are extremely commercial so you hear more often about them. Here research and commerce do not always get mixed. I could give you tons of examples where the US (nor Japan) is the cutting edge.

  8. wouldnt happen here... on Gift Card Hacking · · Score: 1, Insightful

I still wonder why the US still has such old-fasioned electronic payment system. e.g. Visa is problably one of the most insecure payment methods but is probably still the most popular in the US.
Here in Belgium (Europe) banksys [www.banksys.be] creates very secure payment-cards (on cooperation with the guys who invented rijndael). But with the upcoming Euro, Proton is becoming more and more popular. On that card, one can store up to 4000BEF (+- 100 Euro's) pre-paid, and it is very secure.
Why aren't doesn't the US adopt those systems?

  9. Re:What can be done about terrorism? on More On Tragedy · · Score: 0

In my opinion this terror attack has nothing to do with the jewish cause. It's hard for western people to "think in an eastern way". Keep in mind that after america/nato gave Israel to the Jewish people as a gift for their suffering, whole villages with palestinian people were murdered out. Media didn't report a lot on this (even western media are restricted by the government, never forget that!), but palestinians were murdered and had to flee their country to make place for the Jewish community.
Did you ever hear of Israel attacking and bombing Palestina? I doubt it. The US support Israel and the media almost never (prohibited?) report on those attacks.
Don't let media and government brainwash you! Emotional reactions (eg Bush's) which say this is an attack on democracy and "God bless america" are a way to get the nation behind the government.
America, don't freak out. This was bad but don't let cowboy Bush take revenge. It will only get worse. Keep in mind American terror attacks were far worse than this (Hiroshima/Nagasaki, vietnam, supporting South-America's regimes....).
