    thats at least one student in a highschool class.

    at least one person in your extended family.

    i am fully aware that Sony is mid-grade of equiptment. i have owned Harmon Kardon equipt (before some bad college roomies stole it), and I understand high end stuff is beautiful.

    Sony's stuff just works... I'm not going to buy cheap crap anymore is my point.

    Its like cordless phones around the house... i was going through vtech crap every year or two... this last one failed, and i decided to just buy the AT&T cordless ones... why? because I have confidence that I wont replace it for at least 5 years, maybe 10.

    i'm not an audiophile - but i do demand that the stuff i buy:
    1) produces "good enough" quality output. this is for the user to decide. i found that most sony stuf is "good enough"
    2) keeps working as expected for a long time.

    this is the reason that i've decided to just buy Sony home electronics... yeh, i'll pay a bit more, but you know what - my 50 disk cd changer will work 10 years from now.

    There are other companies that produce quality, like phillips, yamaha, onkyo etc etc... but pretty much it boils down to:

    you get what you pay for.

    you are part of the reason that us "Software Engineers" are looked down upon by the rest of the engineering community. i'm pretty sure what i do is engineering, as i'm working/studying under an MSEE, but what you do - is probably crap.

    pat yourself on the back about being smarter than all those people with silly degrees and credentials. we will be actively trying to marginalize you and to turn my profession into a respected, redulate entity.

    i did temper my statement (i think) the other reason is control of trade routes.

    i think that nuclear energy is a good move, except that whole radiation thing... much less pollution, though you do have the waste...

    fusion... ugh... so far off still...

    hydrogen? no cost effective way to ge tthe hydrocarbons w/o oil...

    because you need to run your economy on something in the mean time... you need to be able to produce in the oil economy in order to move into the FOO economy...

    remember this - all wars ever fought have always been about control of natural resources, or trade routes. In a word, wars always come down to the economy.
