You're not looking hard enough then. They don't make money off of Google News itself, but it brings you to their site. The more you're on Google, the more likely you are to use Google's search features - the ones that make them money.
This is sort of the old web portal stuff, but without trying to throw everything on one page and overwhelming the user.
No, Linux is an unsupported OS here on student PCs. That being said, I use it on my laptop without issues. There's a cluster on Linux PCs in the engineering building, ironically "donated by Microsoft Research"; but those are administered by the CS dept and not OIT.
I too am a Princeton student, and I just want to echo these statements. Please don't mistake this man for one of our brilliant computer science professors such as Ed Felten or Brian Kernighan.
He's an OIT CS-wannabe, nothing more, and this is clearly his bitterness at that dept. for demonstrating his incompetence.
Mainly the big deal is that these devices have a Broadcom 4301 802.11b/g chip in them, which is also included in many laptops and other wireless solutions. The drivers for this have been illegally linked into the kernel and the source for them should be released. I for one care because if there were 4301 drivers I could use wireless under linux.
My servers were all upgraded back in July when openssl-0.9.6e came out and fixed security issues, and only openssl before e is vulnerable. 350 boxes is really a relatively small number compared to the total out there.
Yes, there is a great lack. However, why is there a great lack? KDE's theming system is very inflexible and stunts creativity. I've looked at porting some sawfish/e themes to kde and its just not possible with KDE's current pos theming engine.
I've bought a ton of video games in my life time.. but I have never bought one at Kmart or Walmart. I can't think of a serious gamer who would buy one there anyway. Oh well, just my 2c
The GNOME foundation is composed of developers that each have a vote on issues. Sun, HP and the other corporations just have seats on an advisory board (so they dont have any real power). GNOME will always be controlled by its own developers.
Shutting down the central server really doesn't matter.. I'm connected to OpenNap right now and there's over 3TB of mp3s here. Windows users will want to use napigator to change their Napster default server.
Heh, the thing is this is when I use TrueType fonts, even MS ones which I consider to be well hinted and what not. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
I do consider GIMP to be a fairly decent Photoshop replacement for most things. I think its great that they are adding film capabilities. The more features the better imo.
The US Congress is blurred out. Scroll a bit from the White House over to it. Interesting what they choose to blur and not to blur ...
You're of course welcome to use wxNet (wx's C# bindings) instead of GTK#. Mono doesn't force you to use a toolkit, they just make it easy to use GTK#.

Poor Princeton? That $9B endowment should cover the costs ....

This gives the phrase "eat shit" a whole new meaning ....

The GNOME packaging project provides RPMS of GNOME 1.4. See here for the files.
I've been trying to run this for the last few days, and I've gotten so many kernel oopses that I've had to revert back to a standard kernel. YMMV

Get some decent hardware - my P2 450 doesnt have such problems

jrb, is this the same GNOME foundation that is in cvs? or are these vendors so disconnected that they formed their own foundation? Dean
While gimp 1.1.24 is beta software, it is in feature freeze and is extremely stable. You will also find its much nicer than gimp 1.0.x
They have already said that its not possible to release the source - which puts RH in a tight spot. Closed source drivers are evil anyway ;-)

You can play with the code right now .. its gpled ... look at the linked stories .. one of them has a link to the code.

Exactly what do they mean by SuSe 6.3? The evaluation CD or all 6 cds? I would think the evaluation CD ....
Where did you read this? It seems to me you're spreading lies unless you can produce actual proof.

Has the GIMP's text anti-aliasing support been improved? It has not been the greatest in the past. Keep up the good work GIMP developers!
