Well this should be interesting. For years I used NedStat Basic (now WebStats4U, what a lame name). Anyhow, this last September they changed their name and quietly changed their TOS. The TOS changs were mentioned in small type at the bottom of an email announcing the 'exciting' changes. The biggest change is they now had the right to put pop-ups and other crap-tastic forms of advertising on your site.
NedStat always seemed to be one of the better free analytic sites out there, with them starting to pup pop-ups on sites, I'd imagine a lot of people will happily switch away from them. And since one of the choices is Google, I'd imagine a lot will switch to Google.
Thanks for that letter, I just openned up Open Office and put together a nice letter out of that. I'm off to the mail box. I'd hope everyone would do this.
After years of "huge economic rises" and years of "it's a new economy" is anyone surprised? The so called tech boom created thousands of new tech jobs, many of them software engineers, for stupid start up companies who thought they could ignore how the economy really works.
So, four years after the dust settles we're still going to see the backlash of what happens when you hire too many non-qualified people and too many people looking for the quick gold rush buck. Of course there are less jobs in this area, because perhaps we didn't need them anymore once the "new economy" evaoporated.
Hint: There never was a new economy, it was a farse.
I'm somewhat stumped by people blaming Bush for this. The economy didn't shrivel because he became president, it was already going down before then, tech companies IPO'ing without a major project, or a product that in todays market is just pathetic will cause stuff like that. Tons of money tossed into "new avenue markets" by big venture capitalist firms instead of going into current growing markets that have a proven track record.
It's not Bush, heck it wasn't Clinton, the jobs are gone, they even deserve to be gone. Now everyone just needs to find out why everyone else is so dang surprised.
Registration fees to send mail via.mail?! No way, I know lots of small shots that wouldn't be able to afford that.
Beyond that $2000 is chump change for spammers. It hurts no one but the honest guy, which is what government lately seems to be for, so perhaps it'll get pushed as a law. *sigh*
Nothing needs to be tied into individual usage statistics. You just need to tie ads into what the closed caption words say. To target the content of the show, now what the user likes.
I used UPS to ship a monitor to me 3 years ago and it was shipped in its orginal box with the orginal packing materials. This box was within yet another box surrounded by bubble wrap. This protection still was not enough. When I got the shipment I found the box extremely battered. The inside box was in just as bad condition including a puncture! The monitors bottom was completely caved in revealing the inside completely. Suffice it to say the monitor was not usable. It took me about two months to get refunded for my losses (I had insurred my package and the shipment was from AZ to WA.)
Thanks for posting this essay. This is what I have been saying all along. All the people who are in positions to make changes or simply encourage changes do nothing and turn away from the REAL issues. To often they go for the more 'glitzy' issues then the ones that are the true issues.

Exactly, so if you do a search on Google Australia for "casino" you won't see any ads, however, do a search for "caseno" and you will see lots of ads.
If people download it, then that says to the RIAA and their ilk, that perhaps they can milk it for some money.

Now if only Tivo got some google sense and tied their ads into keywords (which could be easily fetched on most channels supporting captions).
Googled has proven that targeted ads work, why not try it in Tivo.
Actually MS didn't license WinZIP they licensed DynaZIP from InnerMedia.
Can anyone explain any possible legal implications of a Washington State resident being able to input information?

As of win32 I thought C++ was just as fast as Assembly.
