I just read a great book by the author Gerald Diamond, "Guns, Germs, and Steel". He talks a bit about this as well. Some of the other causes were: lack of domesticatable animals, crops, different types of written languages, and technologies. A really great book that I would definetly reccomend.
I would imagine that they would have us think that there is notheing wrong with violence, and everything wrong with sex. Talk about a messed up set of priorities. This is the same thing that happens in every blockbuster. All violence and no sex. This sends a clear message to people.

Actually, the US is the largest supporter of the Taliban. Colon Powell (sp?) personally went and talked to the Taliban leaders earlier this year. They made a deal regarding the heroin production in Afganistan. I believe the amount was $43 million U.S. Dollars. The largest monetary supporter of the Taliban: the US.
This guy did not use the developer tools that came with OS X. They are downloadable from the apple site. I don't think that I can believe what this guy says if he can't even get the right set of tools.
Linux was talking about the legacy Mac os applications lacking memory protection. This has been a problem for what, 15 years now? I think that this was a bad piece of reporting, taking things out of context and stringing them together to make a story. Oh well, what can you expect from zdnet
Ther is a difference between native and invasive exotic species. Kudzu is the later having come from Asia. Ecosystems design themselves to have predators for plants like this. It will take a loooong time for predators to evolve for these species. It looks like humans just volunteered. Feel like getting out your clippers?
Put enough of them up there, though, and you're going to change weather patterns.
You have got to be kidding. It would take a lot more that a couple of dozen of these to change weather patterns. I think that the asphalt that we use in roads and paving large parts of the world have a lot more influence on weather patterns. I remember reading a long time ago about the city of Los Angeles' weather patterns being really hot in comparison to surrounding areas because of all the paved areas collecting heat.

OS X uses the POSIX and X11 APIs. There are three ways of programming for the mac now.
The carbon APIs, which are the old mac toolbox but cleaned up for multithreding, mulitasking ect. and 'cross platform' compatability with the old Mac os.
Cocoa. This is what apple calls their implementation of the Next APIs with java 2.
And finally, stright unix. Mac os x is a Mach os with BSD. Most things are a straight recompile.
Oh by the way, there is nothing called the Quartz APIs. Quartz is the graphics layer for the os.

Speeling machines anyone?

I would really like one of the 300Mhrz crays out there, but intel makes a faster processor. Right? ;-)
Hey all. They were filming parts of this in downtown Oakland last Fall. A chase scene right outside my friends office.

Have you seen those robots on CNN? That is really scary. They win my vote. ;-)

It's kind of like Microsoft and Intel, eh?
