  1. Re: Hmmm on President Trump To Use Huawei CFO As a Bargaining Chip (politico.com) · · Score: 2

If he understood power politics he would have never made this announcement. He may have just thrown away any chance that Canada will actually agree to extradite her. This is incompetence politics.

I'm Canadian. Canadians follow the rules to a fault. She will almost certainly be extradited.

  2. Re: Touch centric on Why Did Ubuntu Drop Unity? Mark Shuttleworth Explains (omgubuntu.co.uk) · · Score: 1

I use Gnome 3 without a touchscreen. It looks great, I show it to people who donâ(TM)t know Linux and they are impressed. But thatâ(TM)s besides the point; I have no problem functioning without a touchscreen. In fact I think 90% of my gestures involve Super Key>Start Typing Application/Folder/File>Enter. I must admit though, that I have enabled Desktop Icons. Not sure why they hide those by default because itâ(TM)s probably disorienting to newcomers.

  3. Soundcloud is the best for independent music on SoundCloud Has Enough Money To Survive Only 80 Days, Report Claims (techcrunch.com) · · Score: 1

With the technology available today, talented people can cook music up in their basement that rivals and exceeds what is commercially available. Soundcloud puts these people at your fingertips for free. It's got a huge pool of contributors and an interesting if imperfect interface. Even hugely respected artists like Aphex Twin use it to distribute unreleased tracks. For me though, I used the site a lot less once they got rid of groups. I suppose this bit into their revenue model somehow (though I can't think of a way). I can honestly say I would have considered paying for Soundcloud Go+ if they had kept groups, which made searching through new music by genre/location/whatever much easier.

Apple has gone off-the-rails when Jobs WAS involved, too. See, e.g., iTunes.

Or Ping. There are other examples too which I can't be bothered to think of. Having said that, the new messages features as mentioned in TFA were pretty darn gimmicky. Playing more to the nerd crowd than the masses.

  5. Why don't Canadians get any of this cool stuff? on Amazon Piles On the Prime Benefits With New 'Prime Reading' Perk (geekwire.com) · · Score: 2

    We don't get video either

  6. We've had this technology for years in Canada. on The Chip Card Transition In the US Has Been a Disaster (qz.com) · · Score: 1

In fact it's already outdated, everybody taps their card now and the chip seems like a major inconvenience. Why are USAnians so far behind us in this particular department?
