The board told the CIO (and the CTO and all other officers) that the corporation had not met it's goals so every body had to cut their budget by some amount (don't know exactly how much).
You know what they did? they fired people that's what. The biggest cost is salary so they got rid of people. They are still paying through the nose for compaq servers, MS sharepoint licenses, exchange, SQL server, vertias net backup, and a dozen more commercial software for which there are inexpensive and OSS competitors to.
You are living in a fantasy world if you think some Middle Manager is going to advocate switching technology, it's easier to fire people.
Mac got a head start by starting with freebsd, linux started from scratch. By this time next year all your nitpicks will have been taken care of.
BTW why don't you create a very simple shell script to add the proper entries for mozilla. It would not be hard at all and it would give you a chance to give something back to the community that gave you so much. Don't look at it as a short coming, look at it as an apportunity to make the world a better place and contribute.
I must admit that it does seem a bit shallow to get something like linux and mozilla for free and then complain that it does not work exactly like you expect it to.

Google does not advertise. Their popularity has come from word of mouth. This feature like all others will spread through word of mouth too. So far it's worked well for them.

Google not only looks up information for you but also gives you definitions, conversions, maps and directions. Of course there are also linux, freebsd, mac, govt and MS specific searches, image searches, catalog searches and search of newsgroups. I doubt very much MS will let you make linux specific searches.
Learn to use google and you too will find it indesposible.

The fact is that they don't want people to immigrate there. Why? Because most people who want to immigrate are indians and other people from south east asia. Go to any engineering school in the US and you'll see that the top 30% of the students all have dark skin and foreign accents.
NZ apparently does not want that. They want to remain pretty white and monoculture. Since they can't legally discrimminate against skin color they shut everybody out.
The practise continues and is commonplace. They don't legally get married but they have many "wives" who live in different residences and the male takes turns "visiting" the other wives. Frequently all the residences are on the same property of a small enclave/town. These wives usually pop out a kid once a year too. I know more then one person who has over 20 children.

So the biggest spending president in recent history will enjoy the full support of so called conservatives. The president who grew the govt most, intruded on the lives of ordinary citizens the most, the president who gave amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, who erected steel tarrifs etc will enjoy the support of conservatiives fully.

I have been looking into immigrating to NZ and let me tell you that it's very hard. Not only that it gets harder every year. The people you know probably got there before the rules were changed.
First of all you are punished if you are older or don't have millions of dollars. If you don't have a degree then you might as well forget it. Finally you need a job offer and nobody in NZ is offering jobs to people who are not citizens.
I would love nothing better then to live in NZ and work very hard just like I do in the US. I am a highly paid person here and I'd take a pay cut to work there because it's such a beautiful place but since I don't have a degree there is not a chance in hell it will ever happen.

If you are a doctor you get to pick from a bigger pool of younger, better looking women then being a geek. Just like if you were a model or an actress you'd have a bigger pool of younger, better looking men.

You become a network guy who gets beeped at all hours of the night, a programmer who gets yanked like a puppet by the marketing wanks, or a project manager who kisses ass all day long hoping to get the programmers to actually do some work while lying full time to the marketing wanks.
This is a field where the overwhelming majority of all projects either fail outright or get abandoned. There is no sense of accomplishment and no sense of appreciation.
It's a sucky field no matter how you look at it. It sucks as a peon, it sucks as a middle manager, it sucks as a CIO.
