  1. Well Said on Interviews Come Back -- With Cringely's Answers · · Score: 2

"Want to help Linux? Write apps!"

I can't think of a more simple or correct statement on this subject.

  2. Re:Geeks on Trial on Anime And The Tech Lifestyle · · Score: 1

  3. P.S on 2600 Staffer Arrested During Republican Convention · · Score: 1

Why don't they study up on some of the real sacrificing heros for justice, like the Jesuits. Pah.

  4. Protesters - ASKING FOR IT on 2600 Staffer Arrested During Republican Convention · · Score: 1

It seems like these granola munching assholes thrive on bringing out the worst in the people around them. They rally not only to show group support for whatever their cause is, but as a aggressive statement against the police. They instagate, push the limits(chaining themselves together, throwing shit at the police, fires, car tipping, etc) and then cry murder when their luck runs up.

Their are no brilliant people in these herds, just people who think that causing civil unrest is a kick and makes them heros for risking, *gasp*, arrest for disturbing the peace!

Watch some of those pre-rally meetings that the protesters were having, and see for yourself how passionate they are about being the victims. Maybe if they had any true bearing on the political scene, they wouldn't have to resort to such group stupidity.

    This feels like Bad Acid.

  6. Re:i agree with that on Jupiter Report Says Napster Users Buy MORE Music · · Score: 1

My sentiments exactly. You get teased with part of a song, or a shitty recording, and it makes the prospect of a perfectly mastered recording so damn tasty.

  7. Completely True! on Jupiter Report Says Napster Users Buy MORE Music · · Score: 2

Napster still reminds me of the tape trading scenes around school. You get a half assed, poorly recorded, mislabeled tape of music thats just enough to get you interested in buying the real deal.

I just downloaded some unreleased tracks off a Who album I've had forever(Live at Leeds, of course), and it has rekindled my interest in buying the remastered CDs of my older Who recordings I have collected. There ya go.

  8. huh huh huh on Why Do We Still Use Gasoline? · · Score: 1

  9. Re:You're a Journalist Now, CmdrTaco... on Possible Pics Of The New Apple Mouse · · Score: 1

My number one pet peeve is the your/you're thing. It just shows one's complete ignorance when they do that. Not that I am the grammer Nazi here by far, but c'mon!

  11. Re:3,500 microscopic solar cells..?? on Silicon Retinal Implants Are Here · · Score: 1

LSD reverses certain neurological pathways in the brain and conuses your senses into crossing over each other. What I was talking about is when your brain does not have all the relevent information to build a scene, it fills in the gaps based on the overall look of a scene.

  12. Rewarded with only one second of music? on Encrypting Digital Music With Multiple Keys · · Score: 1

Well, thats not too much worse than what I get from Napster...

  13. Re:3,500 microscopic solar cells..?? on Silicon Retinal Implants Are Here · · Score: 1

Try this one day when you are bored at work. Stare at the celing tiles with unfocused eyes, and you will notice the pattern completely takes over your FOV. This is because your brain is filling in the gaps with what it thinks is there based on color and light cues. If you try, you can even make items in your periphery completely blend away.

  14. Mattress Tags on Corel releases Photo-Paint for Linux for Free · · Score: 1

It is not illegal to remove your mattress tags after you buy it. The distributers and stores can't remove the tags before sale.

I always tell myself, at least I don't work in a mattress store.

  15. Re:Slashdotters - listen up! on Why Develop On Linux? · · Score: 1

I did make a reference to the Linux nuts here. I am not talking about that.

  16. Slashdotters - listen up! on Why Develop On Linux? · · Score: 1

I usually 'lurk' on these comment trees, but I just noticed something that really interested me.

This user, TummyX, is obviously a Windows user. VERY obviously. But what makes me wonder is why every single one of his posts is a powerful pro Windows statement. Every single one. Go ahead, check it out.

Opinions and opposing viewpoints are what this place is all about, but the extent of this guys pro Windows rallying in every single thread he posts in is kinda weird. Almost as annoying as some of the Linux zealots here :)

Anyone detect something strange with this dude? Like maybe his agenda is a little too specific?

Reading Slashdot too long has got me beliving my own conspiracy theories :)

  17. Excellent! on Pilot Synthesis · · Score: 1

Now I can play my Party All The Time by Eddie Murphy MIDI when I have a reminder!

  18. Midway Games on Is Pinball Dying? · · Score: 1

My good buddie's dad is the president of Midway Games, and I believe they just retired the pinball business for good. Kind of sad, but it was an inevitability...

  19. Hey, this has been done! on Cool Personal Robots · · Score: 2

Remember the Hero series of robots? Made in the 80's by Zenith, they were used for robotics instruction courses among other things. I have heard of a Hero 2000 memorize a path in a room using its sonars and other sensors, and power dock itself. Sure it took a ton of hand written code, but thats whats cool about it.
