I guess I just don't get the hate towards StartsWithABang. They get a lot of posts on Slashdot which I guess is suspicious, but the information always seems objectively presented, accurate and maybe some people don't like the writing style, but I think it is ok to be excited about science when you are writing for a general audience and not presenting a piece of academic research.
Neither i get that hate towards StartsWithABang (when it is more than a rightful criticism for the (at least) "suspicious" constant posts on Slashdot) - their articles (this was not their best in my opinion, but anyway, it was in their usual easy to understand motif) are "advanced" enough for the "general audience" (people like me, who like Cosmology but could not understand "a piece of academic research", as you put it - i could not even follow most of your points in your comments criticizing the points of the article!).

Unfortunately this fact (i.e., blacks have lower IQ than other races) is so problematic to discuss because it "paints" anyone who express it as a racist who *hates* blacks - i am a racist, but i don't hate blacks, i just believe in racial differences (actually, i believe that i love blacks more than many people who try to suppress their low IQ fact, because i think that they can be helped socially if we recognize the *biological* fact, in the right way: there is a reason we WHITES have special education programs for our WHITES with low IQ...)
Interesting. I agree, and same goes for women who tend to whinge a lot these days about their situation. There is no doubt that Western European men led the charge of human development, regardless of race. So those who can trace their heritage via that line have had historical advantages, even if you have more melanin than someone else. The good news is the the difference is not too big that it can't be corrected, and anyone who has access to the same levels of nutrition, social structure, health and education can achieve the same level as anyone else.
It's important to distinguish between racism (discrimination) and recognition of physiological differences between humans.

As for the Grecian military issues with the USSR and Nazi Germany, yeah that sucked. The bit with the Partisans, after the war, was also bad and it is sad that Britain dropped the ball on that one. Britain made a lot of promises during the war, it failed to keep many of them in a timely manner (or at all). One is forced to wonder if they had any intention of upholding the promises in the first place.
I must thank the British (and the Americans) because they helped Greek anti-Communists in our civil war with the Greeks Communists (who they were supported by the Soviets), and Greece, thank God, did not end up like the rest Communists countries - keep in mind that Greek Communists did more horrible things to Greeks than even the German NaZi did!
Either way, Greece is a nice place and is full of nice people. There are obvious exceptions. I do not judge based on the exceptions and have enjoyed my three visits - one of which was extended and I had no trouble getting permission to stay for six months. I seem to recall that I needed a special tourist visa to stay that long (longer than 30 days as I recall) but it was painless to get.

I have (at least) one major problems with you (good) advise: i can not "complain" without feeling bad for myself (i could never do it), plus, for us Greeks "complain" means that you must "escalate" to some "barbaric phrases" (otherwise it is not a real "complain" and you get ignored!) that makes me feel even worse...
I have a friend that she works in an ISP call center and she tells me how bad she feels, not only because she has to deal with assholes like me, but also because, while she undertands how frustrated the clients feel and really wants to help them, usually they are more even more ignorant than she is.
Very recently i had almost the same problem the post describes. I called my ISP (good thing is that, because of our rare Greek language, we don't have to deal with some call center in India!), a girl tried to "read from the script", i stopped her and i said: "girl, your voice is so beautiful, i am in love with you, let's get together... i know that you have to wait some time before you connect me to a real male technician, so lets talk about us while we wait time to pass" (and other stupid things like that). The problem is that this thing may me o.k. between Greeks but i doubt it will be o.k. in many other countries.
Anyway, i think that you may cut "the script" if you try to be direct (but be sure you know better than the girl "reading the script" - she really try to help, and she is a human).
And considering the fact that most "apps" are just a "wrapper" for their web page (that you could use just fine from a browser), you end up to the safe conclusion that their only reason to exist as "apps" is to have access to our very personal data!

If we accept the 3 "basic" races (whites-Caucasians, blacks-Africans, Asians-Mongolians), we Greeks are whites - among that general white race we can say that we are Southern-Mediterranean whites (like Italians for example, or Jews, i.e., different from Slavs for example) - remember that we Greeks are (in)famous for trying to differentiate ourselves from the rest of the world all the time, even if that means to be self-excluded from the "white race" (i am well known in Slashdot for my usual "we Greeks, you Barbarians..." thing!). NOTE: of course there are some whites who may claim that we Greeks (or Italians, or Jews) are not white, but i think that is usually an "inner-white race" civil war!

Greece has one of lowest crime (generally) and/or theft (specifically) rates in the world (out of 190+ countries it is in the lowest 20, comparable to Japan for example) - AND GET READY FOR A RACIST FACT: while (illegal) immigrants are about 1/10 of our population, almost 2/3 of our crime (theft included) is done by (illegal) immigrants! - also, anecdotally (because i don't have the data right now), keep in mind that the 1/3 of crime that is done by Greek citizens includes crime that is done not only by Ethnic Greek but also by Gypsies that are Greek citizens...
You can also try to examine Greeks that live in the rest of Europe (e.g., Nothern), North America, etc. Again anecdotaly, i think that they are not known to be involved in crime.
Can you share you experiance with Greeks, so i can help you form a more informed opinion, and help me undertand what makes you think that we are "thieving cunts" dear Sir?
I guess I just don't get the hate towards StartsWithABang. They get a lot of posts on Slashdot which I guess is suspicious, but the information always seems objectively presented, accurate and maybe some people don't like the writing style, but I think it is ok to be excited about science when you are writing for a general audience and not presenting a piece of academic research.
Neither i get that hate towards StartsWithABang (when it is more than a rightful criticism for the (at least) "suspicious" constant posts on Slashdot) - their articles (this was not their best in my opinion, but anyway, it was in their usual easy to understand motif) are "advanced" enough for the "general audience" (people like me, who like Cosmology but could not understand "a piece of academic research", as you put it - i could not even follow most of your points in your comments criticizing the points of the article!).

Unfortunately this fact (i.e., blacks have lower IQ than other races) is so problematic to discuss because it "paints" anyone who express it as a racist who *hates* blacks - i am a racist, but i don't hate blacks, i just believe in racial differences (actually, i believe that i love blacks more than many people who try to suppress their low IQ fact, because i think that they can be helped socially if we recognize the *biological* fact, in the right way: there is a reason we WHITES have special education programs for our WHITES with low IQ...)
Interesting. I agree, and same goes for women who tend to whinge a lot these days about their situation. There is no doubt that Western European men led the charge of human development, regardless of race. So those who can trace their heritage via that line have had historical advantages, even if you have more melanin than someone else. The good news is the the difference is not too big that it can't be corrected, and anyone who has access to the same levels of nutrition, social structure, health and education can achieve the same level as anyone else. It's important to distinguish between racism (discrimination) and recognition of physiological differences between humans.
I am not just racist (as i already mentioned) but also sexist, i.e., i believe that racial differences and differences between the sexes exist - i agree that it's important to distinguish between racial/sexual discrimination and recognition of physiological differences between races/sexes, although i also believe in a "healthy discrimination" (in a "good spirit"... if you can understand MY spirit!) that can help races/sexes socially.
The most important thing in my opinion is to not suppress scientific facts because of some "political correctness" and/or (worse) political intimidation - it is unproductive, and, at the end, surely not helpfull for those who are "problematic" (e.g., in the case of our discussion, i.e., IQ differences between races, the black race).
As i already mentioned, and as an example, i find that special education for those of lower IQ (in our case, both white retards -note: retards in the well known medical term- AND *average* blacks in general), is what would be socially useful (and helpfull for both the society generally AND those getting this special education specifically), but here is the political problem: imagine proposing such a plan....!

Anyway, their current target is Google because they have a "vendetta" with them but if they succeed they will try to inforce it on other search engines also... basicaly France (and Europe) want to be able to censor "the (global) internet" based on our European censorship laws (like this "righ-to-be-forgoten" and other similar), but currently they don't even want to implement a French/European censorship filter (because we like to pretend we are "free"...), so we try to force non-European companies (e.g., Google) to do it for us.
How curious... I would think that folks would want to avoid self-referencing with Hitler and the Nazi party. I am aware that they are not the same thing but it still seems highly unusual. I am not sure I would affiliate with any Nazi party, regardless of capitalization/spelling, or with Hitler no matter how much I agreed with that party's platform. In fact, I dare say that I would remain ignorant (if I could) and would never look into that platform because, frankly, I would not want to be associated with them due to the name alone.

Additionally, I am quite aware of how the state of Israel got its start. They did not have much of a choice but to be nationalistic at the time. At that time it was a perfectly sane and logical choice.
I also believe that - actually i am very pro-Israel, plus, i believe that Jews are some of the most, if not the most, important "barbarians" of the world (i like to claim that there 2 kind of people: us Greeks and the "barbarians")!
As for the Grecian military issues with the USSR and Nazi Germany, yeah that sucked. The bit with the Partisans, after the war, was also bad and it is sad that Britain dropped the ball on that one. Britain made a lot of promises during the war, it failed to keep many of them in a timely manner (or at all). One is forced to wonder if they had any intention of upholding the promises in the first place.
I must thank the British (and the Americans) because they helped Greek anti-Communists in our civil war with the Greeks Communists (who they were supported by the Soviets), and Greece, thank God, did not end up like the rest Communists countries - keep in mind that Greek Communists did more horrible things to Greeks than even the German NaZi did!
Either way, Greece is a nice place and is full of nice people. There are obvious exceptions. I do not judge based on the exceptions and have enjoyed my three visits - one of which was extended and I had no trouble getting permission to stay for six months. I seem to recall that I needed a special tourist visa to stay that long (longer than 30 days as I recall) but it was painless to get. I no longer drink so I will not be able to share in the Ouzo but it is on my agenda to visit again even if you have a Nazi party. I needn't agree with your politics but I certainly should respect the right to affiliate yourself as you choose. Though I did serve in the military I am not very nationalistic and, actually, have dual citizenship as I am part Native-American (First Persons) and have Canadian citizenship as well as my US citizenship. I do not agree with Canadian politics nor do I vote there - I spend most of my time here and it would be unreasonable for me to try to assert my political views on a people where I am, for the most part, more a guest as, realistically, I am a citizen in name only.
You are always welcomed in Greece - when every illegal immigrant has no a problem entering and staying in my country, it would be rediculus if a civilized Canadian/USA citizen had troubles! You should understand that we Greeks have issues with both (Muslim) illegal immigrants invading our country AND a Muslim neighbor country (i was serving in the Greek military when they tried to invade AGAIN Greece - i can not afford to NOT be nationalist!)
