You can play HL2 without a net connection... it requires a network connection
:-)
Why should you need a network connection for a non-networked game? It's the stupidest fucking idea ever. It inconveniences a lot of people, and there's no legitimate reason. Does it prevent piracy? Fuck no. There are cracked HL2 ISOs on all the major torrent sites and p2p networks. Valve is only screwing its paying customers; the Steam limitations don't affect pirates using cracked versions.
Yes, they never added any wonderful features like WM & iTunes, such as DRM.
Actually, they did. WinAMP will play FairPlay'd AAC using the Quicktime libs, the exact same way iTunes does (you might need a plugin, can't remember).
If you tried that with iTunes it would replace everything on the iPod with what was on that particular computer.
You can select manual control and copy whatever songs you want from however many iTunes libraries you want.
And finally, let's say I somehow get Firefox behaving logically with respect to tabs and I'm happy. Until I sit down at my co-workers machine and he's got completely different extensions doing similar, but ultimately confusing things.
That's no different from using Opera or IE and sitting down at your coworker's machine. Different people didn't suddenly start having different preferences when FF/Moz introduced extensions.
I don't know where you saw me say that I get to control what others are allowed to do, because I surely don't recall writing that. I merely said that a lot of useful equipment is being thrown away, and gave examples of what could be done with that equipment.
I didn't claim to understand the technology. But the arguement was made that Spotlight is radical because it doesn't require you to manually tag things, and someone responded and said that MS had already done that same thing. I was backing up that point, not claiming that Spotlight isn't radical in other ways.
I prefer new equipment to old equipment, of course; everyone does. But for pretty much everything most people do (except games), a five-year-old computer works just as well as a new one. Even a P1 with Linux is quite useful for most office and Web tasks.
Gmail already has a fairly good spam filter. I'm guessing the type of power mailer that would want additional filtering might not be best suited for a free webmail service anyway.
Exhaling CO2 is actually good for the environment; plants need it for photosynthesis.
One video card isn't that bad on the environment, but there are probably millions of tons of servicable computer equipment being thrown out every year, with a lot of toxic chemicals. It also takes a lot of energy and waste to manufacture the new machines.
With Virtual PC, if you want. But that's irrelevent. The point was that autogenerated metadata isn't a radical innovation, because it's been implemented by MS and others. Simply reimplementing it under a different OS is not radical.
The only issue is iPod music is stored in Fxx folders with no apparent pattern. If you wanted to copy only a specific album or something like that, EphPod or similar tools would save you a whole lot of time.
Kerry and Edwards are multi-millioniares. They want to spend your money for "social compassion and self-sacrifice", not theirs.
Last time I checked, they supported raising taxes on the rich. That would include themselves, but not the majority of/.ers. So your statement is, in fact, backwards. They want to spend their money, not ours, on "social compassion and self-sacrifice".
If you believe what John said at the debates than I guess its true.
I think Kerry was stretching the facts his way a bit, and Bush was doing the same thing. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. There probably are these nightmare situations we hear about, where surgeon's insurance premiums are higher than their salaries. But I don't believe they're as common as Bush would have us believe, and I think that a lot of other factors have as much or more influence on health care costs.
If we end up with a Republican Congress (which seems likely), they'll probably pass some form of tort reform and Kerry (if elected) will probably sign it, as long as it's not too drastic. Most of the country agrees that reform is needed, and I don't think Kerry is completely in the pocket of the trial lawyers.
On the other hand, I have this mental image of the Bush energy team as people who think we don't need to worry about alternative sources because Jesus will return before we run out of oil. That's what scares me.

0 and 0, but they're not of equal importance. Alternative energy sources are crucial to the future of the world. Tort reform would be nice, but litigation is being overblown as a component of rising health costs.
In any case, both of those issues are (in theory) legislative and not the President's responsibility.
Lemme just point out that your vote does count, even in a non-swing state. If your candidate gets an electoral majority and a popular minority, he'll lose legitimacy it in the eyes of many Americans. A vote for a major-party candidate in a non-swing state may not help get them elected, but it''ll help legitimize their administration.
I don't know where you're buying your boxes, but some major video types (WMV and DVDs, for example) are currently illegal to support under Linux in pretty much any form, except possibly Crossover. Wide format support is possible with Linux, but anyone who sets it up "out of the box" is asking to get sued.
You're probably thinking of Minority Report. Hibernation is like a reversible death penalty - you go to sleep and never wake up, unless your sentence is overturned. It wouldn't make much sense for normal prisoners, though, because the purpose of prison is (in theory) to reform criminals in addition to snipping time out of their life.

Mouse gestures are a FF/Moz extension, and Fast Forward can be installed as a bookmarklet in any browser.
No, there's not. The IE page is designed to be used as a sidebar, not an actual home page.
True, but no one cares about them. :-)
They still won't be negative unless you can get them below absolute zero. Now that would be an accomplishment.
iTunes the program != iTMS.

The Democrats still have enough votes to block an incredibly bad nominee (like Ashcroft). Hopefully they have the balls to do it this time around.

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.
Nothing about winning or losing there.
RTFA. EphPod is what they're talking about.
