A Condorcet ballet would look like:
A: 1 2 3 4 5
B: 1 2 3 4 5
C: 1 2 3 4 5
D: 1 2 3 4 5
E: 1 2 3 4 5
The voter can choose any ranking for any candidate, and two candidates can be ranked the same. Pairings can be automatically determined from the rankings, and need not be exposed to the voter.
The problem with altruistic video games is that games are fun because they let us do things we couldn't or wouldn't otherwise do in real life. I can't command huge armies, I can't use magic spells, and I wouldn't go around driving like a maniac and killing every cop I see. But, if I feel like being altruistic, I can do that quite easily in the real world, and it's much more rewarding.
Another way to look at that is that since altruism is, by definition, making some kind of sacrifice for others, it's not going to be as enjoyable as not making that sacrifice would be.
You can think of it that way if you want, but Rockstar would disagree. From what I hear, they see Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas as a trilogy forming the third generation of Grand Theft Auto, as they're all based on roughly the same engine. GTA4, the next generation, is probably just starting to be developed.
GTA3 came out on PS2 a long time before PC. Not to say the previous games were unpopular, but I'd say the major popularity of the series began with GTA3's PS2 release.
My marriage has nothing to do with your religion and your religion has nothing to do with my marriage. My marriage is between my spouse, me, and God.
It seems to me that you agree with the parent. Your marriage is between you, your spouse, and God, not you, your spouse, and the government. Marriage is a spiritual contract and should be handled by your church (or other spiritual leader), not the government. The government should concern itself only with the legal aspects of a relationship, such as taxation and visitation rights.
Imagine how you would feel if someone said "but all you had to do was go to a lawyer and get a document for a living will, power of attorney, etc." and carry it around with you EVERY DAY for the rest of your life?
What does that have to do with anything? The rights that a married person currently has would be covered by the civil unions the parent proposed.
So, if I add a track to the library on my computer, and I want to transfer it to an iRiver, how does that work? If there's "no syncing required", how does the new stuff end up on the iRiver?
Well, their "answers" are understandable. If Kerry admitted a flip-flop on a "topic of national importance", the Bush campaign would have the quote in a swing-state ad slamming him within a few hours. And Nader has never really had to make any decisions of national importance (except maybe deciding to run in 2000), so he doesn't really have any mistakes to admit.
The G4 and especially the G5 have a helluva lot more registers than the P4. Whatever the relative benchmarks may be, it's extremely difficult to emulate a PowerPC on x86 at decent speeds, because there aren't enough registers.
If you read the rules, you would see that candidates can have blank paper and pens placed on the podium prior to the debate. Kerry's pen was a minor violation of that, but not in a way that actually mattered.
How so? It's quite possible to have a perfectly standards-compliant page that looks awful in IE. It's MS that missed the point of web standards by not conforming to them.
Firefox does #4 in the default install, and #2 and 3 with an extension. I don't know about #1, I've never really wanted that, but it'd be trivial to implement if someone hasn't already done so.
The iPod has a decent DAC, but the white earbuds are crap. My $15 Sennheiser MX-400 earbuds sound much, much better (and don't advertise to would-be thieves that I'm carrying an iPod).
Um, there are computers from 2001 (and probably earlier) that will play it just fine. HL2 isn't that demanding, certainly not any more so than Doom 3.

I can't say that either of those adjectives would be my first choice for describing XP.

It'd be sweet if it had Wi-Fi - you'd just have to drive into your driveway and it'd automatically sync. Doesn't look like that's the case though.

So Gates himself wrote Media Center single-handedly?
Slashdot filed it as a joke, but the actual article seems to take it quite seriously.
True, I guess. But, out of formats actually in use, I can't think of any that are less compact than AIFF.
When was AIFF ever more compact than AAC? Isn't it, in fact, the least compact format possible?
Open as in "well-documented".
Lots of companies have developed single-platform games for GB and GBA. I don't see why the DS would be any different.

Even the cheap Bic pens generally have caps.

It's not a "security hole". From what I understand, they're using standard CSS features.

H.264 is outrageously expensive to license. Dirac is an open, patent-unencumbered codec that can be freely used for whatever you want.
