Well, 7up ads are certainly more entertaining now than their last batch. That "7up underground" stuff was getting annoying. Then again maybe everyone else _did_ want to be an "Un" and fight the "Syndicate". Either way, I'm glad they ditched it for that guy with the puns.
Which driver is that? Mine's not what I'd exactly call a "fast driver", actually I ended up going back to the June drivers. If these are different drivers please let me know!
What hardware are you running besides your TNT2... with my TNT2 I haven't noticed _any_ fps change in quake3, If I could play at a 24fps average, that would get me through till X 4.0, but as of now I'm still getting the 15fps I was getting with the summer drivers.
You can play quake 3, but I didn't notice any difference in speed from the drivers they released in the summer. The only major difference I can see from the TNT/TNT2 end is that they finally support 32bit color depth. On my K6-400, I'm getting about 15fps in quake3 on the "fastest" setting, which goes to about 8-10 when it counts, in a dogfight with someone else.
A friend of mine has an Athlon 500 with the same TNT2 as me, and he gets 20-30fps on the normal setting. So YMMV.
I've been running the q3 demo on my TNT2, ya just have to go to ftp1.detonator.nvidia.com and download the old drivers. They have a faq and it's pretty straightforward to install, you just pretty much replace your Mesa libs with theirs, and your SVGA X server with theirs.
As for "decent" performance, nope, not yet at least, I get a good solid 15fps average with very modest settings. A recent irc chat transcript I read with some developers at Nvidia seemed to say to give them a few more weeks to announce their Linux intents.
Yeah yeah, and,... and, a share of andover stock for each registered user, and multiple language support, and emailing each user when a new story is added.
Actually, a lot of times stories are posted in the middle of the night, of course, when you consider that the news outlets that Slashdot links to sleep at night(US time), and that I'm sure that the story submissions slow down at night, it makes sense that we don't see 10 new stories posted during the night.
Possibly they use "dark" as in unknown since until this century no one had seen that side. Kind of like they used to refer to the deep jungles of Africa as "Dark Africa". It is still sometimes referred to as the "Dark Continent", even though it receives it's fair share of sunlight.
My Palm with the "My Checkbook" program is very useful... I take it with me wherever I go. With a debit card, it can be time consuming balancing your checkbook with debit transactions, but I just enter the transaction as it happens in the palm and I know at a glance what my balance is.
Plus it's handy having "paper and pen" in my pocket should I need to jot stuff down quickly.
Are you counting the engineers from Cygnus? As far as Mozilla goes, Redhat just threw some money their way, Redhat hasn't taken over Mozilla development. I would wager to say that the "coding" jobs for linux will generate from companies developing and porting their software for linux because of distributions such as Redhat.
It seems like Redhat has used their money so far to invest back into the community.
If you are looking to get into programming, perhaps you should look into "Learning Perl" by OReilly, it's the llama book. I would say that Perl is sufficiently easy as a beginning language.
They used to show the top downloads for each genre, at least that way you could see what other people were downloading most, while not a review, it gave an indication of what _might_ be good. But, alas, they have changed the format now and only show a list of artist names.
Works ok on my TNT/K6-400. Just need to get the Nvidia Mesa and X binaries. It's not too fast though, I'm looking forward to Nvidia's OpenGL being released this month, and (in the future) XFree86 4.0. Until then, it works, but not as speedy as I'd like. Q2 runs fast enough though.
I've also found the K6/K7 450's to be unreliable, with the kernel randomly crashing after halfway through (not to mention quake crashing after a minute or two), once we change the chip to a 350 or 400, everything is fine.
I'm guessing the moderator was referring to the final sentence of that comment as "funny". Although if I had any points it would have seen a +1 for Insightful rather than funny, oh well.
The best way for them to tell what people are using is to release them all at the same time. Releasing the Windows version, then a month or two down the line releasing the Mac and Linux version, won't give an accurate result.
If they are all released at the same time it will show which platform people prefer playing it on, as they will buy that version first.
I always thought they were going to release them all at once, bummer.
Plus threads like this always have someone who tries to predict what the responses in the threads will be. Congrats.

Could you post a link to the page that talks about those drivers? I can't find it anywhere on lokisoft's page.

How do you protect a case from the elements while still providing enough air circulation to keep the processors happy?
That would be bad if you spent all the money on sealing a case only to have the processor burn up on you in the summer heat.
I wonder whether the 800Mhz Intel outperforms a 750 Athlon.
I seem to remember reading some Tom's Hardware benchmarking results awhile back that had the 700mhz Athlon outperforming the 733 Coppermine.
But then again benchmarks can be slanted too.

Using it to control my TV is pretty fun too.

My fault for not proofing, what I _meant_ was K62 and K63, (K62/3) how that turned into K6/7 I'll never know :)
Hopefully most readers know that K7s start at 500Mhz, so they won't be misled by my error.

The great thing about my libretto is that my university library is wired with ethernet jacks all over the place.
I can just bring my libretto in, plug it in, fire it up, and have high speed internet access (higher speed at night).
Sure beats waiting all night for a download on my modem at home, I just need to get a bigger hard drive so I can use it as an MP3 jukebox.
I sure hope that Mr. Moderator wasn't referring to his .sig as flamebait... that would just be opening up a whole other can of worms.
or when they core dump on your living room carpet while you are gone.
Everything should be made as easy as possible, but no easier.

I usually use three finger from my right hand (thumb, ring finger, and pinky), so actually, so, for me, it actually is alt-ctrl-del.
Although I still say "Control Alt Delete" in a sentence.
