Just because you haven't heard about the protests, doesn't mean they aren't happening.

You are so full of shit. This has nothing to do with money, but rather self rule. It's about Hawaiians being held at gunpoint to sign over sovereignty. It's about the dozen plus other observatories already there (built under protest also). It's about Kaho'olawe being blown to bits for decades. It's about a lot of things, but money isn't one.

Actually, we do have laws like this. If I put up a "No Solicitors" sign on my house, and a salesman knocks on my door, he can be arrested for trespassing. Furthermore, if a solicitor knocks on my door, the homeowners association, will prosecute them for me, as they are not allowed within my private community.

I can't RTFA (since it's /.ed) but I am doing freelance tech support. I setup home wirless and wired LANs, setup NAT/Firewall boxes for cable/DSL subscribers, apply patches, re-installs, and some general security tweaks and basic security training with each customer. I also help with any problem my customer's has (yes any, I get some dumb emails) for free, if they can handle it through email. If I have to go to their house (or call them), they get charged. I charge a reasonable rate (depending on the job up to $15 an hour plus gas, and travel time). I am not getting rich by any means, but I make a decent living and can schedule work around time for my kids, and being a single parent, that is very important to me.

Honestly, I couldn't ask for a better job, sure it has it's headaches, and some weeks the work is sparse, but I wouldn't trade the flexability it gives me with my kids for anything.

  16. Not only possible but feasible on 3Com's "Gamer" Modem Pings Faster? · · Score: 1

I may get flamed for this, but here goes anyway.
3COM's so called "gamer" modem is not only possible, but probable. You see I work for a regional ISP that uses 3COM Total Control modems. There are some obvious incompatabilities with Lucent, TI, Supra, and Rockwell modems (both "hard" modems and winmodems). These modems are hard to connect with, slow, and VERY unreliable. (just for the sake of fairness a lot of 3COM modems are the same way). Now you design a modem that will connect reliably, and fast to the Total Control rack, you will see a improvement in ping times and data transfer. Total Control racks are the industry leader, and in use by more and more ISP's (both large and small) daily.
