Good luck pointing it out to anyone and getting them to believe it. Best of luck trying to point out the parallels between today's America and yesterday's Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, etc. People just roll their eyes and go back to cheering about the DRUG ADDICT mom who was arrested and her kids taken by the State, after the standard Fifteen Minutes of Hate directed at the Other Party on TV.

That's not a catch-22. A catch-22 would be if you had to sell books first before the language became popular. You don't have to sell books to popularize a language, but having those books available could likely help considerably if you language is actually worth using. So basically, it's kinda like if someone were to open a retail store; in order to attract customers the owned would need signs and things printed up which cost real money, but he cannot and should not expect that people should have to come in and make purchases first before he can put up the signs. He has to borrow money first and make the signs happen first.

By writing the code you've done all the work and throwing it out there costs nothing, in case someone finds it useful. Nothing more was implied nor guaranteed, did a rotten piece of source code you got from Sourceforge steal your girlfriend or run over your dog or something?

If you can't be bothered to document your code, why the fuck would I waste my time poring through it trying to decide if it will be useful to me? If you want to contribute to society then fucking contribute. Why do people get so goddamn defensive when it's pointed out their asshattery and half-assedness isn't winning them any friends? Your source code is useless to 95% of people without documentation. Document the shit, or don't bother releasing it. If you're trying to ensure your name will be forgotten and your code will rot away in the dustbin of history, then you're doing a damn good job as-is; otherwise, step up your game.

I myself acted up as a kid and hurt people sometimes; I didn't mean to, that's not how I was meant to be, that's just how I was due to the situation at home. Even now I struggle to avoid being a complete asshole sometimes especially when dealing with idiots on the Internet.
