Addendum: I did not mean to refer to the hypothetical son as a "he/she"... I started to apply this advice to both sons and daughters, but writing he/she everywhere is tiring, and young boys are typically bullied much more often. (Girls tend to resort to passive aggressiveness in snubbing each other.) Regardless, girl bullies do exist, as well as boys who bully girls, and it would do a bullied girl just as much good to stand up for herself in these situations.

Men who tell their son to "suck it up" when he/she complains of being called names at school are failures and should not be parents. Cowards like this, with no backbone to stand up for themselves or teach their children to do so, are the #1 reason why today's America is a pile of shit. A real father would instruct his son to punch that bully right in the face. A few seconds of pain for the bully will end years of torment and hurt for the victim. Additionally, the bully will now understand that his words and actions have consequences (a lesson his shitty parents obviously didn't teach him) and he will become a better person as a result.

How is this insightful? YOU'RE WRONG and the GP is right. Flat white paint does in fact reflect far more light than a mirror. Marijuana growers figured this out long ago when they discovered that grow rooms with flat white walls produce far higher light density per cubic foot. The room is brighter overall, as measured by the naked eye AND by electronic light meters, thus yielding more final product. Flat white walls are better at reflecting light than anything else except mylar sheeting, and are FAR better than mirrors.

Why the fuck would you argue about something you clearly don't know anything about?

Indeed. I work with one guy who, it seemed at first, was mind blowingly stupid. It took 5-6 explanations to get him to understand the simplest things about the equipment I work on. But then after getting to know him better, I found that when discussing certain other subjects with him he had no trouble following along and understanding exactly what I was talking about. And on top of that he is actually pretty witty too.. he's had the whole shop laughing our asses off for hours. The lesson here is don't automatically assume someone is an idiot just because he's not great in your area of expertise.

Oh, and the funny thing is I've met a lot of people, particularly geeks, who falsely believe themselves to be geniuses when in fact they really don't know shit and aren't much smarter than anyone else. I'd much rather work with the guy above, who doesn't in any way act like he considers himself to be a genius, than an arrogant asshole with delusions of grandeur.

Unlimited? Comcast yells if you download/upload too much in one month.

Not if you're on one of their Business plans. I have 6 mbit/1 mbit service through them for $59/month. Sounds pricey, but get this:

NO bandwidth caps, NO bittorrent filtering or any bullshit like that. "Customer service" in India is for the plebs; YOU as a business customer are treated like royalty. I called them up and expressed my interest in opening up an account for my (very) small business. The business account manager came over to my place the next day with a salesman. They were both genuinely friendly guys who walked me through all their plans and options and rates and answered every question I had. When I agreed to sign up they took care of the paperwork for me; I didn't have to do shit but sign my name a few times. The manager then gave me his business card with his cell phone number on it and said if I ever had any problems with the service to give him a call.

The ONE time I thought my service went down I gave him a ring. Told him my address and he remembered right away who I was. I described my problem and he jumped right on it. An engineer (a real one who actually knew his shit) called me up a few minutes later and had me check some stuff; turned out my damn Linksys router was causing the problem and the cable was fine. I apologized for wasting his time since I'm a communications technician and should have caught that, but he said "no problem" and seemed genuinely glad to help.

All that and I haven't even mentioned the performance. 700-800kb/sec download speeds are the norm and I've hit 900-1000 kb/sec on numerous occasions. Never measured the upstream but I'm sure it's just as good. I'm very pleased with the service. I don't have a static IP as I don't really need one, but could get 15 of them for a nominal fee ($5-10/month.) There are of course no prohibitions against running servers. I can also upgrade to 16 down/2 up for an additional $30/month but again I don't really see the need.

Say what you want about Comcast residential service, but the business service is world class. If every company treated their customers like this the world would be a much happier place.

Your example is worthless. Someone missed a red light and hit you because he was texting? That person is a dumb ass. The problem isn't that he was texting. The problem is he was texting and not paying attention while approaching an intersection, which is an idiotic thing to do.

If someone shoots me, I don't blame the gun, I blame the individual. If someone drinks himself into a stupor then runs a red light, I don't blame the alcohol, I blame the driver. If someone runs a red light and hits me because he's fucking with his radio and paying no attention to the road, I don't blame the radio, I blame the driver. Why would I blame text messaging for accidents that are actually caused by the driver being an idiot?

Just like thousands of people are perfectly capable of tuning in a station on their radio and not causing an accident in the process, there are plenty of people who are capable of text messaging and not causing accidents.

I can text and drive with a very reasonable degree of safety. I don't even look at the phone, I let my fingers do the typing. Sorry that you are not capable of doing this, but I can and with practice many others can as well. Those who can't shouldn't be texting.

On topic: I think all states need to implement these same laws, as Utah, for anyone causing an accident due to texting while driving. Additionally I believe new laws need to be implemented in all states that place heavy fines on anyone that uses any cell phone while driving for any usage. Reason being that 99% of all motorists cannot manage any cell phone conversation while trying to navigate traffic or even keep the automobile between the ditches. I see this every day, and honestly it pisses me off to no end when some imbecile is talking away on their cell phone while driving 20 mph under the speed limit and hogging the only lane.

99%? I think it's more like a very visible 10%, and it's not the cell phone causing the problems. It's because those people are assholes who don't know how to drive. The cell phone is the symptom, not the problem.

Every day millions of people choose to fiddle with their radios and do all kinds of other things other than stare rigidly at the road, and only a fraction of a percent of those people get in accidents over it. Same thing goes for texting. For every one high profile dumb ass who causes an accident doing it, there are hundreds of others doing it safely.

Are you that conceited that you're going to pretend you are NOT taking the lives of others into your own hands when you do something as foolish as this?
