In October 2002, a few days before the U.S. Senate vote on the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution, about 75 senators were told in closed session that Saddam Hussein had the means of delivering biological and chemical weapons of mass destruction by UAV drones that could be launched from ships off the Atlantic coast to attack U.S. eastern seaboard cities. Colin Powell suggested in his presentation to the United Nations that they had been transported out of Iraq and could be launched against the U.S.[78] It was later revealed that Iraq's UAV fleet consisted of only a few outdated Czech training drones.[79] At the time, there was a vigorous dispute within the intelligence community as to whether CIA's conclusions about Iraqi UAVs were accurate. The U.S. Air Force agency most familiar with UAVs denied outright that Iraq possessed any offensive UAV capability.[80]
To the degree that broadcast news was a more virtuous operation 40 years ago, it was a function of both fear and innocence. Network executives were afraid that a failure to work in the "public interest, convenience and necessity," as set forth in the Radio Act of 1927, might cause the Federal Communications Commission to suspend or even revoke their licenses. The three major broadcast networks pointed to their news divisions (which operated at a loss or barely broke even) as evidence that they were fulfilling the FCC's mandate. News was, in a manner of speaking, the loss leader that permitted NBC, CBS and ABC to justify the enormous profits made by their entertainment divisions.
On the innocence side of the ledger, meanwhile, it never occurred to the network brass that news programming could be profitable.
Until, that is, CBS News unveiled its "60 Minutes" news magazine in 1968. When, after three years or so, "60 Minutes" turned a profit (something no television news program had previously achieved), a light went on, and the news divisions of all three networks came to be seen as profit centers, with all the expectations that entailed.
Thanks. I was wondering if the new eInk screens are worth it with the advertised higher contrast. I also have an original Nook so I guess the new screen isn't different enough to merit an upgrade.
I don't get the obsession over battery life either. When I read I have airplane mode on. It lasts long enough for my use.
I recall asking a similar question of my biology teacher way back in high school. Something like, Didn't WW1 and WW2 put a pretty big dent in world population? The answer was, not really.
Do new computers sold in Israel still generally come with a floppy drive? Here in the USA it's been a while since I saw a newish computer that still had a floppy drive.
Who said anything about the government? If some other nation really wanted to mess things up in the USA they'd attack banking or something (which is something Russia apparently did to Estonia in 2007 according to wikipedia).
Can't seem to get sound working in Ubuntu on a desktop with an nVidia GT 240 w/ HDMI. No sound is a huge deal breaker.
And for some reason I appear to get more screen real estate under Win 7. I guess it's the top bar. Using Firefox in Ubuntu it's just something that is noticeable and irksome. And I can move the top bar, but it seems out of place anywhere else. And I can hide it, but the hide functionality doesn't seem to work well if you are clicking things at the top of the screen while in Firefox.
Means you can only do it at the wake? Not seeing a big deal here. If the Catholic Church wants to keep it's funeral service a solemn occasion, so what?
I got a GBA imagining that similar types of games that appeared on the Genesis and SNES would make it to the system. Things like platformers or sports games like NHL 96 or the FIFA games with the isometric view. Instead the soccer games all seemed like pixelated abortions to me. They decided to make them use a 3d view instead of the isometric view and it didn't look good at all. Even with the DS they still look crap to me. I've always wondered why they just didn't use the old isometric engine that seemed to work fine and look good.
As I understand it when you clean the coins it removes most of the collector value. If you do clean them, there is a certain way to do it. I just used the eraser on a number 2 pencil and rubbed until it was shiny. Who knows, maybe I'm still mistaken and I didn't do all that bad a thing. http://coins.about.com/od/caringforcoins/ht/cleancoins.htm
It's sad to see everyone trying to kill it from different angles.

Anyone know if the regions in China on the map that show droughts are the same places experiencing droughts now?
It was not necessary.
I went with Cingular to get away from AT&T. Switched to TMobile after.

What if your laptop/desktop came with Vista, would you upgrade to 7?

Will it also double as a watch?

FYI, not everyone who saw it at the theater in 1977 was a child.
Amazing how fast that one dropped out of the right wing lexicon.

A non-trivial percentage of the human race freaks out if women don't cover themselves in a tarp. So yes, I think aliens may ruffle some feathers.
