Just want to second how impressed I am with the mechanical keyboard. It performs better and is more comfortable that any other keyboard I have except for my older ThinkPad. It's even better than the MS Sculpt Comfort keyboard I'm using right now.
Yep. The have to be all in. Some day (hopefully soon) they will merge the RT OS and the phone OS into one thing with one store for it and the whole notion will make more sense. They have to do something now though even if they know it's not going to be a hit. The main thing they did wrong with Surface RT was they made too many of them. As long as they only make as many as people want to buy they'll do just fine and some day the tipping point will be reached and it will succeed.
According to Forbes 2.2B of the sale price was for the patents. So it looks like MS can keep making money off the Android licensing business they have going. http://www.forbes.com/sites/parmyolson/2013/09/03/microsoft-to-buy-nokias-mobile-business-for-5b-license-patents-for-2-2b/
I don't think it's that people trust Windows. I think most people just don't feel the NSA cares about them personally so it's not something they need to go through the hassle of changing OSs over.
It's not enough to just have many of the games also run on Linux. If all the same games (plus many more) also run on Windows what's the advantage of spending money on a Linux gaming rig? (Other than ideology which is a small slice of even the people who do know about Linux)
Microsoft is doing fine. They are well diversified. Even if they shut down their Windows division tomorrow they would still have several other multi-billion dollar businesses.
No functionality gain? Learn to pin your most used apps to your task bar. Boom, time saved right there. Want to run an app that's not pinned to the task bar? Hit the windows key and type a couple of letters. Boom, it's right there. Now pin it to the task bar.
"That's not how corporations do things" was proven wrong when loads of people started doing a good bit of their daily work on iPads. Even where that is still true it is only true in a particular subset of that organization.
Not really. I know this won't go over well here but both Linux and OSX have been failures in the marketplace. Microsoft's biggest OS competition comes from something it release more than a decade ago and desperately wants to kill. I'm sure there are version of Linux and OSX which would be considered "modern" but very few people care. Heck, Win 8 hasn't even been out a year. It's been hated on up and down and it is already ahead of OSX and Linux.
Windows 8 works just fine with a keyboard / mouse. Win8.1 even more so. Microsoft's mistake has been trying to compete with the wrong player (Apple instead of Google).
Why would anyone ever need to try and recover data from a dead drive when they can just get it from the recent backup? Oh, you thought you could just push everything to the internet and let us back it up for you? Hmm, gosh, maybe that's not a very good plan.
No fine sir. You are the idiot. Parent comment was about the computer market and that's what I was responding to. Perchance you were blinded by your rage and despair over the rightness of my assertion that OSX has been a failure. Regardless, it matters not to me.
The point is that now OEMs can ship regular Windows. Which lots and lots of people use. More people are already using Win8 than OSX and it's not even been out for a year.
I think they are finally admitting that OSX has been a failure. All the ad money and snarky campaigns didn't move them much over 10% market share. Heck, Win8 hasn't even been out a year and despite lots of hate it's still more popular. They should just shut down the PC business (which they will be the first to say is dying anyway) and find the next big thing.
Every time Linus gets angry people compare him to Ballmer and mention chairs. Ballmer isn't a good comparison. It would be better to compare him to Dave Cutler. Cutler was a bully but he knew how to use his anger as a tool to motivate people. He was disliked by many but NT wouldn't have gotten done without him.
There is also an option to log in with a pin like on a phone. Both are meant there for convenience, not to be a strong lock. In order to take advantage of either an attacker would need physical access.
Well spoken sir. It's funny how people complain about the kickstand only having one position but they don't complain about other tablets not having a kickstand at all.
Still won't work. If you go completely off the grid they'll notice that too. It's best to hide in plain sight. Keep your facebook profile open to the world but full of "TGIF" posts and pictures of your cats/kids. Keep an expected flow of cash going through your credit cards / bank account. Keep your head down. Don't post advice on how to avoid the NSA to semi-popular news sites even if they are well past their prime.
Not on an open channel he's not.
Now that he's opened his mouth he's on their radar for sure.

I was expecting this to be a link to the story about Apple cutting off support for 3rd party cables that were designed to work with their products.

You're welcome.

Funny thing is, the porn collection is one thing we can trust the internet to back up for us.

I agree that the whole megapixel thing is marketing hype but I own one and it does take amazing photos.
3. The vast majority of iPhone users don't use a Mac.
