I could see why it was an issue for people in win8. The 8.1 start screen is *much* better. Just a little thing like letting you keep the desktop background makes it a much less jarring experience.
They wouldn't just down their Azure services (which Skydrive etc lives on) even if it were not profitable because they've made it an integral part of their platform. Also, Azure is one of their billion+ dollar business so that's another reason not to worry. This cloud stuff really is more than a fad.
Not by serious analysts it isn't. The PC market was slumping well before Win8 shipped. The slump is effecting Macs too. The two main causes are the shift to tablets which have allowed people delay upgrading and the fact that the need to upgrade in general has fallen. A 5-6 year old laptop running Win7 still works just fine for most people.
Less than a year out and Win8 is already the most popular shipping PC OS. I'd take that "failure" any day. It's funny how you never hear about what a failure OSX has been.
I think the changes to our society would be even greater. There wouldn't be any need for most people to own a car. Once it scales up it would be much more cost effective to just summon one with your pocket / wrist computer that would take you where you want to go for a fee.
Agreed. I just hope my current car lasts until these start rolling out. As much as I hate Apple I would even buy an self driving iCar. And as long as it takes me where I want to go I don't see where the loss of freedom comes in.
You do know Steam uses DRM right? Or are you thinking Steam for music would be like any of the several services which let you buy DRM free music in mp3 format?
I think he's wrong about the importance of space exploration. He's trapped on this sphere just like the rest of us and one stray gamma ray burst could end us all with zero warning. Figuring out how to spread out is a worthy human endeavor.
You've clearly not tried a Win8 touch system. The have some clever algorithms that let you tap on very small targets. Even if your finger covers more than one it is really quite good at figuring out which one you mean to click. But don't let that get in the way of your anti MS ideology.
Just read this over the past week. Never knew Cutler was such a douche. Reminds me of the argument that came up here a few weeks ago about Linus's management style. Cutler makes Linus seem like a real hoopy frood in comparison.
Wish I had a mod point to send your way. I've talked to libertarians who freely admit that their ideology is based on an over simplification of how the world works but they still cling too it. Be bold and take reality on it's own terms. Don't cling to an over simplified version; that doesn't help anyone.
Makes sense. I think if I was stranded on an island (with decent reception) and had to use a phone as my main PC I'd have to go with one that has a keyboard. I still find typing on a touchscreen a bit frustrating.
I worked really hard and still had to retake two math classes to get through my CS degree. I wasn't going to quit over it though and I'm happy I didn't.
Not for me. My last phone would take crappy pictures quickly but especially in low light I'd have to fiddle with it and take several to get one that was good enough. My 920 is slower but I spend less time deleting failed attempts. Plus, I'm sure they'll get the speed up a bit by the time it ships.
This directive applies to all states, not just Wa and Co.

So by this reasoning the MS products that sell well must be great products.

Their massive install base works against them here. On Windows a one in a million bug will happen by next Tuesday.
has a tablet pocket. And lots of other pockets too.

The reason the keyboard isn't included is because it's not required. The on screen keyboard works just as well as the iPad on screen keyboard.
FYI, MS is now on a yearly "small changes" release cycle. Win8.1 will be out this year.
And they would be better suited for education.

Who said that?
That's simply not true.

As a nerd I would say this is news relevant to my interests.

Personally I've been really happy with my 920 but I don't think I could use any phone as my main pc. Which phone did you settle on for that?
