I do not know where it poops, but I imagine the hybrid bear would have lower emissions than conventional bears.

  3. Re:Wrong! on DRM Reduces Battery Life · · Score: 1

I think FLAC files chew up more drive space than either MP3s or AACs, making them less than ideal for loading onto portable devices, where capacity is presumably an issue. Assuming DRM'ed files are larger than otherwise equivalent non-DRMed files, the need for extra storage capacity could be considered another knock against DRM on portable devices.

There is more to dislike about monster. Prospective employers can also look at all of your past searches. I was on an interview and the person interviewing me asked me if I was thinking of moving to Hawaii. This occured not long after a friend who was moving to Hawaii had spent some time searching for jobs using my computer. That sort of oversharing is more than a little disturbing.

Oh yeah? Well my HP 49g+ graphing calculator would bounce around inside that X40's case like a rabid ferret on speed. And, let's not even get started on the battery life comparisons.

Pardon the pun, but you are comparing apples and oranges when you compare the 12" Powerbook to the IBM X40. Apple has squeezed a whole lot of features into the 12" Powerbook, while IBM either did not include capabilites such as Bluetooth, or stripped out such standard features such as an optical drive in order to make a small, cute computer.
For ~$2100, IBM will sell you a smaller machine, with a slower processor, 1/4 the video memory, and no optical drive. I am not sure who they are selling these things to, but I guess for some, size really does matter....

The original poster was asking *when* would be a good time to buy a Mac, not *if* they should buy a Mac.
That being said, lets clear some things up- for one, a laptop with Linux pre-installed is not going to be any better a value than a Mac laptop. Price them out. Dollar for dollar, the iBook is one of the best laptop values out there, compared to comprable Linux, or Wintel, rigs.
As for Linux having more available software, I am not convinced. If you find Fink to be lacking pre-built binaries of your favorite Linux software, you always have the option of building from source, or even harnessing the power of X forwarding and running the apps. remotely from your Linux machine(s).
I bought a Powerbook a couple of years back. It worked flawlessly out of the box, no installation or fiddling required. The Powerbook has had a couple of problems over those two years, though I am sure my less than gentle treatment is partially to blame. (who knows though, a Linux laptop might like it rough) Despite the minor troubles, I still feel as if the Powerbook was the single best purchase I have ever made in my 30+ years as a consumer, though please do not tell that to my Beanie Baby collection.....

Safari may load the eBay site more quickly, but it is still not without errors. Neither the "find it" button next to the "What are you looking for?" field, nor the "Search" associated with the "Advanced Search" field usually works on the first load. For some reason, having Safari refresh the page multiple times "fixes" this problem. Yuck.

I live out in Boston, and miss catching Pistons game. I used to be able to listen to them over real audio, from links that were available on ESPN's web site. It was a nice, you could get either teams' radio broad cast. That was around 1996 or 1997. The next year, that feature was gone, and you had to sign up some NBA subscription. I didn't bother. It is sad to see MLB following in the foot steps of the NBA.
