This is the most amazing product ever. It's so well put together and easy to use that Zend doesn't feel they have to document or describe it and so light weight that there's nothing to download! WOW!
Yes folks once again the PHP admits to being the last player to the game feild with essential technology.
Remember folks these are the people who can't even standardize the naming conventions for functions in their core language.
Please go to the frameworks site it's basically an empty shell coated in marketing buzzwords.
Given that the USPTO is on a mad drive to increase patent and trademark applications, I would assume that this silliness is not simply allowable but encouraged.
Found this by clicking on a one of two giant banners on FastCompany.
as overboard as this is, there is some truth in it. linux people have this really bizarre persecution phobia. they share alot in common with the christians... there is a pervasive sense that they are constantly being threatened coupled with a strong desire to evangelize. not trying to dis either christians or linux users, your post just raised this in my conciousness. i wonder if this persecution and conversion mime is what is responsible for both the dillegence and success of these sytems.... hmm.
No redeeming qualities... wow. I mean considering we are are the 4th largest economy in the world I think we deserve a little more credit than that. OH and we have Google!! Google is cool! Of and we invented microprocessors... and well you couldn't even type what you are typing without us cause that little building right over there -> ( about 3 miles that way) created the WIMP. We have some good qualities I think. But yes I agree the end of Oingo Boingo dealt us a pretty heavy blow. And that whole William Mullhoulland guy was pretty evil. But of the 4 states I've lived in... well this is by far the most pleasent.
We have to protect ourselves, and yet the Department of Homeland Security has no problem stepping up to the plate and prosecuting people like elitetorrents.org, and the FBI has no trouble finding time to requisition the servers of www.indymedia.org.
Sure am glad at least somebody is looking out for me.
Ah, why is this disconcerting to anyone? It is of course the policy of our own nation. Ours is slighty more flexible as there is no National Policy which forbids the use of foreign developed software in all agencies of government. But there is in every agency of government a set of loosely defined but strictly enforced rules which boil down to "American Software Only." Actually the policies are much broader, "If an American company does it always use the American company before a foreign company. Regardless of quality."
This is a good thing. It keeps local economies growing and keeps local companies competitive. And while not strictly captialist ( an economic policy abandoned after WW2 in this country ), it is the reason our country is the world technology leader.
So why then do we care if other countries follow the same policy? Perhaps we don't like seeing our shoes other peoples feet?
Let them do away with science in Kansas! But let them also do without it's benifits. Let them have their religion and let them live only with the things which religion has given them. We'll see how well evolution works when those silly creationists have to give up Medicine, Electricity, Plumbing, Pesticides and Fertilizers.
They just figured this out? Silly kiddies. Good thing most commercial hackers are dumb as door nails or we'd be in real trouble. Better warn grandma... they finally caught up to her.
Finally embracing Java over Ada.... man you are out of touch with NASA Software Dev. I can't find anything around this place that is written in Ada... maybe a little Lisp floating around on old systems. Almost everything is JAVA or C with bits of Perl, and C# thrown in for good mesure. Ada... Might want to look to the IRS for that.
This is such a deep insightful article! Do I understand it correctly? Here's what I think it says:
A virus proctection and half-ass security company says that as the marketshare of one of the platforms it supports increases so should sales for the products it creates for that platform.
Some things failed to be mentioned. For those of you fighting about whether the system is AI or not you can download the software for yourself and argue about something more than conjecture...

Or if the code is to much to read, and there's alot of it. You can always go to the livingstone website.
Whether this is in regards to Swiss Undercover Agent, or the Posting of RNC delegates information you may rest absolutely assured that had any of the Big 5 derivatives ( you know viacom, time-warner, murdoch , disney and that german company ) done the same thing their assets would have been seized as well.
One only has to look at the sesuire of CNN's equipement after Robert Novack revealed that Valerie Plame was an undercover CIA agent to conclude that indymedia is being treated equally.
Oh hold on... that never happend! Oh well So much for Freedom of Press!
That any media organization whatever would have it's harddrives, presses, or any other method of publication seized without explaination or public discourse is an afront to a free society and should be seen as a crime against the people.
not quite. it was a 1 Ghz xserve with a gig o RAM. Now it's 4, All DP and two of the them brand spanking new Suns. this wasn't a normal slashdot. this ain't no 60k web page ya'll are trying to download....
that server has been slashdoted before and handled the load just fine. but serving web pages is a little different than serving 250MB files. In the first 30 mins one first mirrors went online the worldwind app was downloaded 1400 times. we've now got 4 servers cranking it out..... ouch.
while it sucks that reverse engineering is a violation of the DMCA and that Apple is considering lawsuits based on such an insipid law, i'm not terribly upset about the "may not work in the future" statement. i don't think stating that Harmony "may not work in the future" is totally out of line. there tends to be an update to the iPod software once every 3-6 months and if you are reverse engineering a closed api that changes that regularly you've got to expect it to break. that said, ya apple should proably open their api or at least license it.
what i do think this is, is a sign of the serious hurt that Real Networks is feeling. They should have been the company who invented iTunes, they should have been the company that invented the iPod, they were positioned early on to own audio on the internet and they totally botched it. i think this is a desperate move to get attention and maybe a little revenue before they slip away into their well deserved oblivion.
I'm thrilled to death that PHP is finally starting to catch up with the rest of the world. A solid XML interface, SOAP support, and OO like behavoir are great steps toward a modern programming language. However after my experience in with the PHP 4 I won't be upgrading anytime soon. Can't deal with the constant configuration changes, changing function behavoirs, bugs, and generally moving target of a language.
Don't get me wrong I love the current state of PHP for developing small fast websites. But if history is a good teacher then PHP 5.3 will be the release which should have been called PHP 5.0. Good luck to those adventurous souls who will be running 5.0 on production servers. I hope you can tell me the dev community has grown up and stablized their dev cycle and that I can upgrade at 5.1 instead of 5.3
Being a key geek for a large media organizaiton which has tried for years to turn a profit on the internet I don't have problem with subscription based sites. I have however fought my organization at their every attempt implement them. Reason being what was stated in the orgininal post. 4.95 for a subscription times 10 is more than most people are willing to pay so it is quite likely they will subscribe to one maybe two sites (mostly the big guns like msnbc, cnn, etc...) and maybe one or two specialized sites (slashdot, coloradosprings.com, etc..) and smaller sites carriing specialized content will either go out of business (which they are on their way to now anyway) or will not be able to charge for content.
I do however think there is a solution to this issue: networking. No not vlan's and firewalls but subscription networks. Let's say I subscribe to OSDN instead of slashdot. Sure it costs me 10 dollars intead of 5 but I get a wide variety of sites instead of one. This reduces the number of sites I have to subscribe to. I'm far more willing to subscribe to OSDN or Oriellynet than I am to onJava or slashdot. Just as locally I'd be far more willing to subscribe to coloradospringsnet (fictionall) then I would be to subscribe to coloradosprings.com.
Truth is I'm begining to believe it's the only way we will be able to compete. Or stay alive. MacroHard's.Net initiative isn't about better computing (preaching to the quire) but about making the internet MSN. My bet is this is the route they will travel and they will use passport to leverage it. Anyway just some thoughts.
If you do the work of the devil you are as guilty as the devil. Lets face it you are involved in making M$ policy, you allow the company to exist. By working for Microsoft you are supporting thier ends. It's kinda like working for world peace. which I suppose M$ is doing in it's own way... excuse me, in the same way as Hitler. God can they do anything without ripping it off?
What kind of effect will this decision have on censoring video games, music, websites etc...
Absolutely none. This will be painful folks but lets face it , the abortion hit list is a just a couple of good old boys doing their duty to god. While the creators of Doom, Marylin Manson, and the like are doing the work of the devil. Free speech is only for the rightous, for those who have given what is ceasers unto god, for those who have striken the almighty right cheek, and for those who pray before men so that they may be seen by them.
Can we mod everything that comes off of Dvorak's desk as a troll?
