Gizmodo has more current numbers (which are also a little behind). Currently they're showing 346 TFLOPS for PS3s.
Is hundreds of thousands of PC users shouting "AIMBOT" and "CHEATER".
Seriously tho, I've been shocked at the GPU/PS3 #'s...still doesn't make me want a PS3...ATI/AMD AGP 19XX Radeon, maybe. (do they exist? I thought they did, but nothing on the 'egg...yet).
Well, it uses an IE browser exploit to get in, so if you don't uses IE, you're at low risk. But far be it from anyone to think that these crooks won't find a way to deliver the Trojan in another manner if their IE route dries up.
Perhaps if they open sourced their code, or made a firefox plugin?
All these exploits we're missing because of alternative browsers...I feel so left out! (/sniffle).
Calling it either the Pronstation3 or the Play*coff*with yourself/other*coff*station.
Of course when it won't read the disks anymore...blue-ray/balls will work its way into the joke, or the Office Space "Two chicks/controllers *at the same time*".
Kinda a non-event for me considering the LG 500(something) plays everything I've thrown at it, like burned DL, and RW that other players, not on computers, won't even read.
Top off with upsampling, dvd, divx playback.
Heck, before buying Dr. Who DVDs, I've got the episodes on RW and still be hard pressed to tell the difference visually.
I'd love to have one (new toys...woo!), but that much money for so little drive space, limited expandability even with USB. Meh.
the best they can do is tell me to wander the streets of Seattle looking for different internet providers who might allow me to download the music that I have already paid for, music that I have spent the better part of three house trying to listen to, and which is still unusable?
I'm sure someone not so damn tired either auto translated (like loose/lose which this gent did (huzzah!)) or figured it out quickly.
I did not.
Thought 1: three house? Three houses? Why go to three houses? Different internet connections?
Thought 2: Tree house? He has a tree house? WTF...makes no sense. Tree house are fun, tho.
Thought 3: Time? Three hours? Ah, makes sense now. Odd. Funny, but odd.
Thought 4: HEY, I'll be damned, the typed lose instead of loose! Wow, house/hours typo forgiven!
it should be noted that two other editions of 'Casino Royale' (both standard-def DVD) also cracked the top ten yesterday -- the wide screen two-disc version (at #1) and the full screen two-disc version (at #10)
So, BR version at #8, HD at #1 and HD fullscreen at #10.
(Jack Sparrow) "Humm, that's interesting" (/JS)
The pedant in me wonders what the widescreen breakdown is? I dunno how popular 4:3 is vs 16:9, but owning a 16:9 tv and seeing non 16x9 titles *sometimes* keeps me from buying it on rare occasion. But, I love how the box states "the black bars are normal"...Uh, no, for my screen the black bar look stupid.
What I find amusing is something like "Fearless" in the original chinese release was 16:9, but the american release was 4:3...ugh, I'd rather watch the chinese release with subs, than 4:3 with dubbing, personally.
Still, either format is just not tripping my trigger, and even after over a year of ownership of my plasma tv, if I ever 'regret' buying one, that is easily taken care of by firing up my lowly 480/720p display and putting in any Pixar flic, Final Fantasy, BSG or Firefly in all their 16x9 glory.
So, while this is good'ish news for BR, I suppose, for the rest of 'us', it is a non event for HD/BR, IMO.
Someone already pointed out that Norton quarentines the whole inbox, and older CAVs do too.
The behaviour is "essentially" correct, because pst and mbx's are single files, but the bigger problem is pst's are binary format, whereas mbx's are text/UUE and text editor "recovery" is possible.
Newer AV scanners can "snip" out the infected UUE portion, but you have to set the behaviour yourself as is the case with CAV, and even then it works on IMAP folders, but blasts local ones on occasion.
(snort)
Thankfully, in my case, the last local folder to get bitten was the junk mail folder that I use to train future filters. Now, Tbird needs good mail to balance out the junk mail, so the one saving grace is the filters are usually quick enough to shove the messages where they belong before the AV ax falls on the infected file and folder.
Yeah, "Oh, noes my junk folder got deleted" vs "Oh, noes my entire inbox is gone".
The Mac/PC ad concept just got very interesting...
I think you incorrectly spelled "disturbing", in relation to the mac vs pc ads, here's why:
Any ad where "market" and "penetration" is used, can't end well (in the current Apple ad form).
Past MS OS's, in particular M.E. can be said in such a "who's your daddy way" (i.e. WindowsME!, WindowsME!) that it might leave scars on the psyche that will never heal.
So the article summation/tagging is: "IT's a TRAP", eh?
Anywho...
win98 -> 2000, lots of problems with lack of drivers for older hardware
Odd that you got modded funny for something so true.
What, to me, was most aggrivating was owning a Microsoft Sidewinder (had Logitec Wingman, great stick, but the hatswitch kept going Tango Uniform) and losing support moving to 2000 (and/or XP).
That spoke volumes: thier own fscking Hardware not supported on their own fscking OS! Insult to injury was that the Wingman had updated drivers for 2k/xp (IIRC). I would not be suprised if the LW had Vista drivers/inf.
But the big kick in the nuts, was the Sidewinder was supported *if* you had the USB version...here's the bitch of it: It was the same damn stick with a USB adaptor tossed in the box, and at a little higher price.
So, when it came time for a little Descent3 and the best sticks available were the Logitec and Microsoft versions of the two. Decision was easy: Logitec, end of discussion.
Mice, OTOH, I still prefer the old school two button + scroll non-laser/IR/whatever the heck it is.
Reason: Try doing a 'flick shot' with a laser/ir mouse and you'll shoot your feet off every time.
Funny, these mice are "older than 18 months" yet still supported.
Uh-oh Vista users, I let the cat out of the bag, pretty soon you'll see "Unsupported mouse detected and disabled" UAC dialogue [Allow/Cancel?].
It will take you back to the "Keyboard not detected, press F1 to continue" days.
I uninstall Symantec Corporate Edition all the time. Works a treat.
Heh, well that's one person it worked for (client or server, tho).
Let me share my anecdote/exp from last week:
I had 10.0.2.2000 and using their patching system brought it up to 10.0.2.2020, but would go no further on the server or admin install. ooookaaay.
Found out the license key for my.edu and got the 10.2 update/full installer and proceeded to update the AV server.
Try 1: Update option selected, gets to update phase, hits 1% and says error. click on "view errors" and am greeted with "no errors occured". Riiiiight.
Try 2: Unload/stop services and try again, same result.
Try 3: full install bitches you must uninstall previous version. Fine. Install goes on its merry way, w/o complaint/error. Reboot, all seems well.
Opening the mmc for the server says the admin user does not have the rights to change settings.
W...T...F?
Run thru the steps to fix this error, reboot as advised, no rights to change settings. (SIGH)
Uninstall, blast settings, dirs, regclean...same thing "no rights".
Format, reinstall (thx nlite!) and all works well. (sarcasm) Yippie (/sarcasm)
Of course I initially had no reservations of 10.0 migration to 10.2 as it would not be that big of a jump, so I thought, *and* I did an 8.x to 9.x migration that went perfectly.
Everything went fine on the client side, FWIW, but damned if the server wasn't a nitemare and the reinstall took my WSUS server with it (data on another drive, thank $deity).
I'd still like to know what the solution was to the error, because the info I got did not do a damn thing.
Even after that little episode, I still like their Corp stuff, but the consumer stuff makes even Sony CDs with the rootkit look respectable.
"Despite recovering the flight data recorder from the wreckage, the caush of the crash is yet to be established. It has been confirmed however that the pilot was a big Pink Floyd fan".

(Set karma burn in 3..2..1)
Rescue dogs, yes, for obvious reasons, but the attempt to retrain the drug dogs failed as they all
kept following Pres. Bush around for some reason.
Why do I get the feeling this will wind up on a pirated DVD of the Soprano's?
It won't end well when Mr.Soprano finds out.
As with spyware, it makes sense of course that the biggest population will be hit the hardest.

So goes the old addage "One million chinese people can't be wr^H^Hinfected, can they?
Or, "give a man a phish, and his accounts will be emptied, teach a man to phish and we'll hunt your dumb ass

I often hear that people pirate PC games to try them out and see if they enjoy them, and then buy later.
This is true, but the problem is the only way to get rid of Solitare, Freecell and the like is to uninstall
the Windows XP Game.
Windows XP isn't very fun as a game, but it sure beats that game "OS not found, (A)bort, (R)etry, (F)ail?"

( SHUDDER )
I'll say no more.
not mentioned in the article:
If Cellphone Cos get a hold of the Wi-Fi spectrum for their own use, invariably they'll
have to change the moniker to Ci-Fi.
I can see at least one cable TV channel opposing that, and the hordes of angry geeks
likely to back them.
Who'd want that kind of aggro?

WOOF! NYSE crash after failed Vista Migration BARK!
Details soon. Don't touch that dial GRRRRR! Bad viewer, bad!!
Hey, you're right, that's what my dog told me!
'I'll wait for the "zombie zebra"'
Don't get your hopes up, I was waiting for Farty Ferret.
Obviously you both missed the "Caffinated Chameleon".
The release was stealth'ed and went by so fast even the devs missed it!!
was I the only one who reflexivly covered my groin upon seeing "eSnips"?
Almost an engrish.com worthy name.
Could be worse, I suppose, or maybe eUnichs or eBobbitizing was already taken.
