this is the way the economy runs for steelworkers and the way it runs for programmers. period.
This is the way the steel and auto industries in this country work. That is why Ford makes a good bit of their cars in Mexico and why we import more steel than we produce. Unions are killing these industries.
I don't want a Union to destroy my ability to negotiate with my skills for a fair salary. I make about the same salaries as some people 10 years my senior in the same industry, because I have learned a broad base of skills and gotten good at them. In a Union, I would be paid based on my seniority, not skill set and contribution to the company.
My kids (6 1/2 year old boy and 4 year old girl) both really enjoy pbskids.org. There are games there for each of the pbskids cartoons. My son especially liked CyberChase, as there is usually a math lesson in the cartoon. He loves numbers.
The one problem with GEDCOM is it does not currently support lots of notes and other extraneous information. My father uses a program called Legacy Family Tree. (http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/)
This allow you to attach notes to each individual thus as much extra information as you want. You can also attach images, scanned docuemnts, pictures etc...
the program is for windows, but is very inexpensive ~$20.00.
this would allow you to organize all the information with all relations and family tree information as well.
Legacy does support import/export with the GEDCOM file format as well.
I have to agree. I do computers for a living and a hobby, but I really love working with wood. It requires presise planning, measurement and implementation for something to come out right. Much like computer programming.
I also am looking into Ho-scale train layout and collection. I have an old 1970's tyco train I got as a little boy and have discovered the huge world of layouts and collection recently.
One other un-intended consequence is that to get a job, new auto insurance, etc, etc, etc... You would be required by the company offering the credit, auto insurance, loan, etc... to pay all court costs they will incure getting the information on you to validate you and your history. It would probably not be up front, but rather in increased fees and premiums and other costs. Goverment regulation costs you ~40% of everything you make now. You really want to raise this cost to ~70+%. You would have to get three jobs just to eat and feed your family.
I'm with you. I spent 2 years in France and Switzerland on a Mission for my church. The only person I could speak English with was my companion (LDS missionaries are 2x2 24x7), and after a couple of days/weeks with that person you don't want to talk to them much. I spoke "fluently" after about 6 months and truely fluent after about 1 year.
There where some of my companions who still where incomprehensible after 2 years, but the could understand, read and write the language fluently, their pronunciation just sucked.
I think they are both using a bit of fear. However, it is true. These people are bent on killing as many American's as possible, anywhere, by any means they possibly can.
I have lived abroad and been hated because of my nationality, and no other reason. I understand that these people have no respect for life or anyone elses right to even exist.
So call if fear mongering if you will. If you want to live in fear go ahead. I understand the threat but don't live in fear. Being afraid of a threat only makes the threatener more powerfull and you weaker because in your head they have won.
Also, it has nothing to do with nothing to hide. Those who use this justification are ignorant. I, personally, have nothing to hide, but still don't want the goverment to have unihibited access to my private information, travel habits, or anything else for that matter. This is one reason I support the Fair Tax http://fairtax.org/ plan put forward by John Linder of Georgia. This would eliminate that huge bureaucracy called the IRS. I would no longer have to tell the Feds where I live, work, how much I make, or how much I donate to Charity/Church groups.
I agree that the grab of all this personal information does little to nothing to fight terrorism.

I really like the Zaurus idea. All the pictures I've seen and all I have read about them.
On top of everything the C860 has I would like: SDIO. built in GPRS (with a bluetooth head set) More addon support (Linux drivers don't exist for a lot of the CF cards and of course the SDIO as it doesn't support it.) or another industry supported multi-tasking OS.
USA Marketing!!!!! (for the Sharp clam shells anyway)
At least that is what they would like you to believe.
RTFM folks, this is a Republic, not a Democracy. A certain party convincing the uneducated stupid masses of this country that it is a Democracy will be the down fall of the Consitution and Demcratic bases Republics.
I use to live in Beaconsfield, and my father worked on Old Marylebone Rd in London. He took the 6:15 ( I think this is the express train to Marylebone Station) train everymorning and it only took him 45 min to get to work. He was usually home by about 6:30 p.m. everyday.
There are the guys who like to run light with TWM and just use X as a way of having multiple terminals visible at once. I'll bet if there was an option to do this without the overhead of X, they would. As I ocassionally would, myself.
If you just want multiple terminals, maybe mouse, but no X overhead, try Twin.
I use it and it really works great.
I rewrite my From: field and the envelope because other wise all my email would go out as my localuser@localhost. I am subscribed to a couple of mailing lists where unless the envelope, and the from header say it is from a subscibed acount, it doesn't get posted to the list. Hence a good reason to rewrite the envelope.
BTW, this is a ppp dial up machine with sendmail locally installed and sending localmail as well as outbound.
sammmy baby raises a good point also. Parental involement. My parents taught me similarly, to take what other said with a grain of salt. Most kids pick on other cuz they are jealous. I was picked on and also had the problem of always being the new kid because my father is in the military, thus we where always moving somewhere new.
I think if more parents where involved in their kids lives and cared more, kids would be learning the difference between reality and TV/video games/movies. I know of parents who's idea of taking care of the kid is giving their 5-8 year old a bowl of mac and cheese and setting them down in front of Die Hard movies. How are these kids ever going to learn the difference between those overly violent movies and reality if the parent never teach them.
The role of Caring parents is being shoved off into the schools so the parents don't have to care. Someone else will to that for me. Congress has made it imposible to do this job that parents refuse to do by allowing the teachers/school officials to only discipline by kicking them out of school. They don't go home and get any sort of discipline from their parents, instead they go play video games and watch movies. The parents sometimes don't even know that their kid got suspended or sent home, and when they do most don't care or blame the lack of behavioral limits and discipline on the school, who is forbiden to discipline. Viscious circle!!! Any school person who goes against this is then sued by the parents for inflicting phycalogical harm on the kid by the same parents who set no limits.
To put it in fewer words: It is not the media/games/movies but the parents fault!!!

As was pointed out in some other comments. No it does not make sence to bunch FreeBSD in with UNIX-like OSes as it IS Unix.
