Where do people go lately? Slashdot has gotten so boring since the trolls were driven out. Kruo5hin is dead Dead DEAD. Fark is 4chan. And same. Something Awful is a good scratch of the hemorrhoids, nothing more and nothing less. Digg NO. Ever.
Ok; sometimes things are just so bleedin' ignorant that I feel compelled to respond rather than crapflood.
Are you really saying that Unix has been around since 1946?!
Because it seems to me that if unix.org has anything to say about Unix, it's been around since the early seventies. Is that really twice as long as Apple's been in existence? What kind of math do you use where "early seventies" = 2 x 1976?
You have a very limited mindspace if, just because you can't physically touch something, in spite of all the planning and backing by better minds than yours that you read about, you can't possibly imagine it.
God bless you and your broken English. You've said so much more in so few incorrect words than these snobbish erudites think they ever can with unlimited resources at their (alleged) disposal.

Anyone have an idea about how to get playable music onto the new Sony NW-E105 with OS X? It works as a Flash drive, which is cool, but having it actually be able to play music would be better.
Ok; I've been a Mac user since the Plus, so all this is pretty armchair quarterback for me. Disinterested, mostly. I use XP SP2 at work, and I've got a patched 2K box at home (with Zone Alarm and behind another firewall in the router).
Anyway: Microsoft's making great progress towards being as secure as everyone else. They really are. But what about the uncounted number of compromised boxes already out there? What about the army of bots that are working right now to clog the internet?
It's great Microsoft is finally making good, but why isn't the press talking about the massive number of victims of last year's crap security policies for Windows? And the damage they continually do to the rest of us? They mention that the SP1 box became a bot in short time, and report that many Windows boxes are still SP1, but never state the obvious conclusion.
Sorry; on-topic. Maybe a troll, I suppose, but I am curious.
An Internet "troll" is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet. He (and it is usually he) tries to start arguments and upset people.
Trolls see Internet communications services as convenient venues for their bizarre game. For some reason, they don't "get" that they are hurting real people. To them, other Internet users are not quite human but are a kind of digital abstraction. As a result, they feel no sorrow whatsoever for the pain they inflict. Indeed, the greater the suffering they cause, the greater their 'achievement' (as they see it). At the moment, the relative anonymity of the net allows trolls to flourish.
Trolls are utterly impervious to criticism (constructive or otherwise). You cannot negotiate with them; you cannot cause them to feel shame or compassion; you cannot reason with them. They cannot be made to feel remorse. For some reason, trolls do not feel they are bound by the rules of courtesy or social responsibility.
Perhaps this sounds inconceivable. You may think, "Surely there is something I can write that will change them." But a true troll can not be changed by mere words.
What Not to Do
As already stated, it is futile to try to "cure" a troll of his obsession. But perhaps you simply cannot bear the hostile environment that the troll is creating and want to go away for a while.
If you do that, then for the sake of the others on the system, please do not post a dramatic "Goodbye!" message. This convinces the troll that he is winning the battle. There is, perhaps, no message you can write on a message system that is as damaging as an announcement that you are leaving because of the hostility that the troll has kindled.
If you feel you must say something, a discreet message to the system operator (and some of the others users, if you have their email addresses) is the best course of action. Incidentally, if you are writing the letter in an agitated state, it is a good idea to wait an hour and then give it one last review before you actually send it. That might spare you the pain of saying things that you don't really mean to people you like.

What the fuck is up with Slashdot? I meta-moderated this morning. I meta-moderated again at work (logged in as the same account). When I get home: Have you Meta Moderated recently? Regular Meta Moderators are more likely to get mod points.
Why, yes, I have, and no thanks! This account has meta-moderated twice today already! Leave it alone!
Today, you have 10 moderations to meta-moderate.
LIES! Today, I have 30 moderations to meta-moderate!
"The system is broken" is too dramatic. The system just sucks.

I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Superman star Christopher Reeve was found dead in his New York home yesterday. Other than heart failure from bead sores, there weren't any more details yet. I'm sure we'll all miss him, even if you weren't a fan of his work, there's no denying his contribution to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

I've tried Google with a number of different searches using many combinations of [sony psyc mac "network walkman" "os x" nw-e105]. Nothing there.
If can find info from Google, I'll bow before your mighty search engine skills. Please provide links!
