The real meaning of slashdot effect

In typical fashion, the majority of the slashdot community has managed to hipocritically come to the rescue of another hacker / cracker / whatever these criminals are being called these days.
Whoever said it before me was right: If it aint pro-linux / ms bashing, and it aint pro-hacker / down with the man, it aint gonna be liked on slashdot.
No matter what GPL/DMCA/hippie/hacker/geek sugar coating you put on this, it's still really simple:
THIS GUY IS A CRIMINAL AND DESERVES TO GO TO JAIL.
He hacked into a website, stole some code he wanted to use, and would have sold the code for profit, if he hadn't been so stupid to get himself caught. Geez, he even helped himself get caught. He tried to play it off like it was an accident, and told on himself to create an alibi.
He's just another criminal. No different than the scumbag who stole your car, or the scumbag who broke into your house.
The Internet is not some magical place where the real world rules don't apply. People have invested countless amounts of money and time into it, and their property deserves the same recognition as anything in the physical world.
I'll say it again for those not listening the first time:
THIS GUY IS A CRIMINAL AND DESERVES TO GO TO JAIL.
The dork quoth: "which will involve 'finishing' lots of arabs--hell yeah"
There ya go!
In typical fashion, you sound just like the 'stupid american' that the rest of the world sees us as. Don't you realize that by singling out 'Arabs', you're contradicting what America's all about: 'equality'.
Supposedly, everyone's equal in America, Arabs included. I guess not in your book, huh?
It depends entirely on your standpoint in the situation. To Usama Bin Laden's friends, I'm sure he's not a terrorist. Likewise, I'm sure to these people, we are terrorists.
Don't get me wrong. I don't condone these actions in any way, shape or form, and the people responsible will surely burn in hell for it. I was simply stating that the label a society gives a particular 'person' is entirely dependent on that society's veiwpoint in the matter at hand.
I just saw a program on the Discovery Channel about Usama Bin Laden. One person interviewed (I can't remember who) said it best:
If you agree with the person, he is a 'freedom fighter', or even a 'revolutionary'.
If you disagree with him, he is a 'terrorist'.
(Not exact quotes, but you get the point)
Agreed. I like blackbox also. And yes, KDE is a hog, but then again, so is just about any window manager that tries to do everything. That's why I like WindowMaker, and BlackBox for the same reason: They have just the right mix of functionality and snazzy looks to keep me happy.
But it's definitely a personal thing. If you like KDE, go for it.

Don't get me wrong. I love a lot of KDE apps, but i just don't like the whole desktop metaphor that KDE presents (you can add StarOffice to the list too). For me, it's too much like Windows, which is what I was trying to get away from.
I did choose my OS for reasons other than the GUI, but since the GUI is what you have to interact with, both visually and input/output-wise, is weighs very heavily in my choice, and I suspect the choice of most others also.
I know where you're coming from, I was just saying that personally, KDe doesn't do it for me.

This is a link to a story about Sen. Orrin Hatch writing a song about the WTC tragedy. Isn't he about 347 years old? I know, his heart's in the right place, but there's something eerie about Orrin Hatch writnig a song.
I woonder if it'll make Clear Channel's Most Banned list.

Why don't you strain your feeble imagination and try to come up with something other than the same tired crap you've been spewing for a week now.
Why don't you, in your own words "Please try to keep posts on topic."
Actually, it seems that NSI itself is squating on the domains. There was a/. article not too long ago (sorry I can't find it now). Anyway, it was about NSI 'holding' deleted and expired domains, aparently to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Well guess what, the domains were never auctioned off, and NSI still has not released a lot of them into the pool of available adresses. So people who had their eye on a domain that was expiring soon had to give up on registering that domain name, since NSI never made it available again.
Evidently, they are doing this to keep other regstrars (Register.com et all) from getting the 'good' names. they even go so far as to say that you don't own your domain name, you just rent it from NSI for a while. So if you want to transfer your domain to another registrar, NSI first has to decide if they want to let go of that domain name.
Obviously something dorky like thisismyaolwebpage.com they would let go, but 'better' domain names like business.com would never be 'allowed' away from NSI.

Perhaps some potential investors should let him know what they think. With the financial markets in the shape they're in right now, I'll bet the're in need of investors right about now.
No, they're censoring what the HIRE their DJs to play.
Remember, they did not hire the DJ to sit in the studio and do whatever the hell he wants. The DJ is an employee like anyone else and does what he's told. If he doesn't, I suppose he's fired like any other employee also.
Like somone above sid, it's a business and obviously will be treated as such.
Take away the bowie knives, and they can use their own bodies (hand to hand combat / martial arts). What's next? No arms / legs on aircraft? Only parapalegics will be able to fly?
Why don't we just accept the fact that no amount of restrictions on what you can bring on an aircraft will stop those who are determined enough. For a change, why don't we try not to piss off as many nations as we can...then maybe so many won't WANT to do this...just a thought.

c'ya in hell. At least I'm gettin out!
Personally, I can't stand KDE.
If I wanted windows, I'd use Windows.
WindowMaker is the best: small, and super fast nobloat.

Just my $.02
Malaysia has .com.my, .net.my, etc.
I haven't heard anything about new second level domains though.

But the Clash's 'Rock the Casbah' did not...
Go figure...Damn, actually both are good songs.
No, but can you imagine growing a set of balls instead of posting as AC?
And don't forget about Kathy Lee's army of shirt-sewing kiddies...
Now everyone together:
"Imagine a you-know-what kluster of these."
Sorry, but it had to be said.
But at least both are running Slash!
Sorry, humor is a good thing.

Mod me down if you want, I don't care anymore.
