Just my two cents... but why on earth are people here so keen to bypass this "protection" to MSN. Since when did/. users worry so much about accessing MSN? Or maybe we are just seeing if MSN can handle the/. effect =P (Damn... it's holding up...)
On a side note, I can interestingly access the MSN successfully using Netscape 6.1 for windows
Their business model is predicated on most potential customers not having the bandwidth to download multiple CDs
I wonder if they could try the interesting bandwidth saving step of releasing distrobutions "early" via P2P systems such as Kaza/Morpheus, Edonkey, Gnutella or whatever. Imagine if they release a week earlier. All us junkies that won't have anything but free beer and nights keeping kernels up to date will immediately get the newest release the moment it is available wherever it is. Less techie people can download it from FTP and mirrors a week later. And the people who want to support a worthwhile company can still get their boxed set.
Heck it happens with Microsoft, the final releases appear on P2P before they reach the shelves, isn't about time Mandrake followed suit? It's free beer after all
Also, one of the types has (small) labelling saying that the CD cannot be played on computers
I think would be good news and I hope that type of labelling becomes widespread either voluntarily or by law. They have made a
concious decision that putting anti-ripping protection and keeping users informed is more worthwhile than producing copyable CD's. The free market philosophy is based on the customer having perfect information. Since the customer has been informed, we let the free market decide! Maybe they will sell more because the CD is copied less or maybe they sell less because we don't like a protected CD. But at least they aren't trying to deceive us. If you still don't like this, vote with your wallets!
As I understand Quantum Entanglement, you're not going to get teleportation with this. To create the initial entanglement, you have to perform an operation (such as shooting electrons with energy) to a pair of particles that are at the same inital location. The point of quantum entanglement is that once these particles are separated, the two particles still have this quantum connection between them.
But to get any transportation, you would need to put still need to transport(=move) one of those particles to the new location defeating the point of our transporter!
I've been watching various channels (in UK) on TV and CNN has been getting the best and quickest coverage IMO.
So for those that don't have CNN on their telly, explosions are going on in Kabul, Afghanistan. Watching the video feed, you can see a huge fire lit up, probably a fuel dump hit. I wonder if the US are already retaliating?
My very major company whom I am working for this summer got bitten. They had to release an emergency turnover/fix to fix it. Apparently, they got stuck with an old version of the Perl Date::Manip library (version 1.33 I believe)
Apparently, this version of the library could not perform the "epoch" for seconds beyond the billenium and would report a year 1000 years too early! Of course, this bug was fixed in 1.34 and in fact the current version of Date::Manip is 1.40. Unfortunately, this company doesn't update as often as it should since upgrades can break backward compatibility and need extensive testing. But there you have it, a top company got bitten!
On a more serious note, it looks like this means a company like Symantec cannot operate there as they will not be able to store "virus code" for analysis. Someone down under there really doesn't understand the implications here
Of course, the people who would have the best expertise at "correcting" this policy are those right here at/.!
Well... here is a true story. My mum who is fairly Macintosh (!) literate might find this useful. Here was our conversation, true story!
[Mum] How do I find out how big this file is?
[Me] Select the file and go to the menu and do "Get Info" (Macintosh remember)
[Mum] Ah, so that's the number that tells me how big the file size is
[Mum] If I change the number, does that mean it will make the file smaller?
How about LZip integration into the macintosh file system then?

My moderator points will follow the person who can tell me when and where this series will appear in the UK!
And this someone would be the... PAC-MAN
Sincere apologies...

Help! I've just caught this Love Bug virus on my Windoze machine. How do I stop getting thrown into jail for having this "virus code" on my machine?!

OMG! It's Hercules in space!
They could at least have cut his hair, sheesh
1) Install Slash
2) Fill it with good content
