Ive tried to say many times that "Funny" posts should not get +5 ratings. Theres a place for humor, and funny on-topic posts are great and all, but +5 posts should be interesting and informative.

I stopped moderating some time ago because I was tired of getting dinged in meta-mod by people with dual accounts for moderating down off-topic ACs and flamebaiters.

IBM really did do something semi-original with this ad campaign. I see the posters plastered along construction sites and boarded up buildings around Chicago too. :) But as small and harmless as IBM's latest publicity stunt has been, if the SF City Council didnt act, it would just encourage everyone to do this. With the number of anti-ad zealots floating around /. how many ads would it take to annoy you, looking down to avoid the billboards wouldnt work anymore because the streets and sidewalks would be covered with ads too!!! :)

Yeah but the problem I have with that is at least half of the +4 and +5 comments are rated that because they are "Funny". I mean theres nothing wrong with a humorous, on-topic post, but I personally dont think they need to be able to be moderated as high as a truly insightful or informative post.

Just WHAT is everyone's problem with this? No one is saying there will be interruptions in games for a commercial or something. Look around you already, The two games I have for the Dreamcast (Crazy Taxi and THPS 2) are already loaded with signs and whatnot of real companies, and I think its kinda neat, especially in Crazy Taxi to drive around and see KFC, Tower Records, etc in the game. People need to get a grip about things like that. How offensive can this possibly be if they are non-intrusive ads like the ones in Crazy Taxi???

I think IBM has done fine with Linux, making plenty of money from it, though surely nowhere near their mainframe division. RH and VA are not doing well, because like every dot-bomb out there, they used their inflated stock prices to grow FAR too fast for their own good, and they cant afford all the employees, offices, etc that they bought with the money. If they had stuck with a plan and grew at a more reasonable rate, they'd be fine. There is a market out there for open source products and support.
