Those people "riding the wave" are getting weeded out one by one now that the Internet bubble burst. I know at least a dozen people now (friends and acquaintances) change careers or struggle looking for new work who were either not top-notch or just in computers for the money. It used to be if you could spell XML you could get a job as a web developer, and dont get me started on windows admins.:)
I pray for the kids graduating college with a CS degree right now. It sucks out there, and only the best will get jobs. Thats not entirely a bad thing, but still.
You mean Rational even still supports anything on a non-Windows platform?!
Seriously though, I've been a Clearcase user and administrator on both Win2k and Solaris systems, and it will be a LONG time before anything like this beats Rational. MultiSITE (or does it have a different name these days?) is a great product if you are doing distributed development.
Who cares about the UNIX gui anyway, aside from the nice diff tool, its easier to use the command-line Clearcase commands. Lots of commercial GUI development tools support integrating Clearcase anyway.
This is completely ridiculous. Mozilla is 100% useless to me unless I can go to https:// sites. The version in debian sid (admittedly 0.9.7 as of earlier today) is not capable of this.
While this is true, there is something to be said for standardizing on a single platform. I am not an expert on Oracle's support structure, but perhaps you can purchase different levels of support for different installations much like you can get Bronze/Silver/Platinum level support for your Sun servers depending on how critical they are to you.
Some more points I didnt see mentioned:
on
AOL vs. Trillian
·
· Score: 1
1. ICQ now uses the OSCAR protocol, just like AOL IM.
2. GAIM still works.:)
3. AOL's idea of cross-platform is the same as Microsoft's... make a Windows version and perhaps one for Macintosh. Hence the need for some third party clients (I realize Trillian is a Windows app, but theres many other 3rd client AOL IM apps which arent)
Not to be overly anal, but Solaris comes with the "standard" sh as/sbin/sh, and includes csh and ksh. As of Solaris 8, bash is included, but not as a replacement for the plain old sh.:)
I'd hazard a guess and say the only people using your plugin are developers/engineers/sysadmins who have Sparcs on their desktop at work, and not the same type of home users who would flame an author about his/her software. Nevertheless, I am one of those people who's used the Solaris XMMS plugin and I must say thank you for writing it!;)
Um there is no end to hardware that only lists Windows as a compatible operating system, yet we've all found a way to run Linux using said hardware. Why should apple's ipod be any different?
Please feel free to share why you think kinkatta sucks less than gaim. Does kinkatta support yahoo, msn, icq, and jabber? I'd have to say NO based on reading their website. And that counts for a lot. gaim does pretty much any necessary AOL IM feature, like chat groups and of course one-on-one chat. It even does buddy icons (fluff, i know). And its stable. The *only* benefit I can see from using kinkatta would it'd look like the rest of my kde apps (I am a kde user)
kde is what made me switch from redhat to debian. There was so much KDE 1.x shit in RH 6.2 that I couldnt find and get rid of, that my built-from-source kde 2.1.1 would not work at all and hosed parts of my system.
After using apt, I can't see why anyone would want to deal with "RPM hell".
debian unstable is hardly unstable. I don't see any reason *not* to run debian unstable unless your system is a critical production server or something. I have no problems and I've been using sid for a while.
Mod this up, because it affects a lot more people than you might think.
This problem is a pain in the ass and now I'm using mutt (with its awkward commands that im too lazy to figure out how to change). Here's hoping my ISP updates pine.
How is this offtopic? I was directly responding to a post. If you have issues with my response then RESPOND.

They already have 160GB drives. Check www.pricewatch.com
120GB 7200RPM IDE drives are under $200 now.

Why did you put US Gov't as the vendor?
What have you seen/heard saying they released this virus?
I could if they were there. Why arent they in sid with everything else?
(fuck this lameness filter)

Q: What do you think about Western Civilization?
Gandhi: I think it would be a good idea.
