I disagree there ought to be places that are cellphone free and if a person does not like this policy they can find some other place to shop or view movies etc... It's not about eliminating the technology it's about trying to make up for the judgement that others often lack. The only way to deal with some people that lack any social etiquite is to make some places cellular dead. If it's posted that this is the policy then you have the option to leave.

then this would not be a problem. Society has functioned for many years without cellular technology. If you have an area such as a movie theatre or a classy restaraunt you should be expected to use some judgement and turn it to vibrate or off to go to VM. This is the ideal, but people have shown time and again that this is not in line with reality. I am all for business owners jamming these devices. I think that there ought to be a large sign stating that the devices will not work and to use a land line if you need to make emergency calls. I have seen so many times that people will take calls anywhere and talk completely disregarding your feelings to have a peaceful dinner or watch a movie without hearing about somebodys personal crap. This could be a great niche market for people that want have a peaceful shopping or viewing experience that is uninterupted. I pay money to get away from pagers, cellphones and others screaming kids and I expect that this will not be a problem. If I want the noise of everyday life I will go home or to work. There ought to be a place to get away from this stuff.

Microsoft announces "Windows XP knights edition". This package includes built in firewall and preloaded with Apache too keep the kingdom safe from intruders. Updates will be totally automatic because everyone can trust "sir bill". This little baby definately comes with a kings ransom as MS stopped taking the firstborn last month. We will settle for bleeding the kingdoms gold one upgrade at a time. Act now and get a personally signed version in a box that looks like the Gates family crest.
You have to be kidding me. Hell really has frozen over.
If there are problems with service these guys will get dumped for bad service and thier customers will get thier normal phone service again. I doubt that thier are enough people that will switch to run ma bell out of town anytime soon.
Also if your worried as a business for service get 2 diffrent access providers. I bet that will get you security in your phone system. Especially where I live phone lines are on poles and tend to get hit by trees in storms. Data lines however are underground and not nearly as susceptible to this kind of damage.
Government should not have to worry as long as thier are many players in the market.

This is the kind of thing that needs to be researched. The IIS is a modular design right? Why couldent they make a "food growth module". That could make the station more self supporting and reduce or eliminate a lot of the support missions.
This makes sense for astronauts as less launches risks less lives. Also for the people manning the station as thier lives would not 100% dependant on supply missions. I think also in the long run probably more economical too.
This would also lay a working foundation on the feasibility of self supporting colonies on the moon or other planets.
on a bunch of projects. Anybody get that list of projects that had to be split and alphabetized. Some of the projects seem a little silly and some seem to really have some really good uses to mankind. One of the things that made me laugh was to use it in computer virus research. I thought the internet was the biggest "viral research lab" around. How are you going to model that with a supercomputer? I may be spewing utter ignorance here however.
is that they are easier to secure. No network jack that is physically accessable is a real good front line security. I know that is's not bulletproof but it's a lot harder if the guy has to break into my house first. Theres a price one must pay to use wireless. I will be sticking with my 100Mbps ethernet and live with the "annoyance" of running a jack to anywhere I need internet access.
I would love to have one to surf the net and stuff like that. Surfing the net doesent require a keyboard anyway. Would I use one to type up a document? probably not. Is a person going to use thier laptop to 3D model? probably not going to replace thier desktop if for nothing else screen resolution here. It's all about using the right tool for the job.
I hear people saying thier useless but I believe they have thier place. If they were cheaper I would buy one.
About time that somebody did something about dangerous cellphone users. I would use one after the technology gets a good track record. I could work on a laptop and still get to work. Nice for all the drunks out there after work too. Stop by the bar and still get safely home.
I liked what I read in a reply about LFS install and the some from the Slackware camp. I think that a Linux expert should be able to recompile a kernel and configure the system using native GNU tools on all systems. The main problem I have with the RHCE is the fact that a lot of it seems very Redhat centered. I know that there is no way that a person could be concidered competent if a "Distro" stumps them if you can use the standard GNU tools that works on Redhat and on all other systems. All unix type skills should be there too. If a person cannon even crack open vi and edit files he is not your man.
This service will no doubt fail as it requires too many things for all it delivers. The more likely thing we will see from this is after this fails more lobbying in washington as they can now "proove" that the internet is only comprised of pirates! See we opened a pay service and nobody used it!
I have not bought a single CD since the RIAA started it's campaign aginst it's own customers. I figure if I want this kind of abuse I would run windows.:-)
The record companys are going to be just as effective at alienating thier own customers as Microsoft and that is what will bring about real change. I am all for it go ahead copy protect CD for players that were NEVER designed to have that done. I promise it will not affect my music listening habits on bit. Wait... who's there? The FBI! Sorry gotta go.
I figured that this whould happen much sooner than it did. I am glad to see another stupid digital rights management scheme defeated. I wish these media companys whould understand the idea behind fair use and quit blanketing all users as criminals right off the bat. This happening to a MS format just makes the point 2 fold.
I think the RIAA should be banned from online distribution anyway. This should be handled like long distance and the phone company. Banned from online distrubution as long as thier "CD based monopoly" still exists. They need to be forced to give the littlde guy a break. Besides they have way more market share then whould be allowable in almost any other market. I say good for the EU for having balls!
You should call somebody that knows what they are doing. I love the fact that everybody blames the software even though it's usually the user who can't be bothered to patch thier systems. If you have no computer skills FULLY EXPECT TO PAY SOMEBODY WHO DOES!! This should hopefully motivate you to learn if you are whining about the money that it costs to get your machine back up. If you are a manager type well then shame on you for not getting some skilled IT help or PURCHASE A SERVICE AGREEMENT FOR YOUR SOFTWARE! You can't have the whole world your way either get some skills or get some money the choice is yours? I fully support thoes ISP's that are doing this I wish mine did because my broadband is next to useless now!
I already pay enough and recieve little in the way of service on my cable system. I pay around $60/month and I have had my aliases lost twice and had at least 20 technicians check the cable in the area (after losing signal to my cable modem) and find nothing. Magically one day after calling the head guy over kansas the problem was solved then we moved! Enough of that already my main point is that this will not help the price or quality of the service as they will not have any reason to do so. Maby they will spend more on a trained IT staff (holding breath). I looked at DSL but whould take a speed hit to do so. I think this sucks!
"I know this may go against the average Napster-usin', CD-burnin', Porn-downloadin' Non-consumin' consumer, but copyrights are there for a reason."
I just want to know what company you own? Youre right this point of view is usually shared by rich business owners. The mentality that you arent a member of society unless youre a helpless consumer. Some of us can work on our own cars, computers and appliances and mix our own CD's and yes sometime even download pron. (yea like im the only guy that does this) some of us have the capability to do more than most and will. Love your stereotype though I fit it perfectly youre just mad that you can't make money off it. If companys want my money most have to provide service something I rarely get without a fight anyway so why pay for it. Why don't we outlaw diagrams schematics and technical papers so that only corperations can work on products. I bet that sounds like a good idea too Hmmm.
The company providing your ISP bandwidth were to lower the priority of the packets coming from your T1 line? You still get your bandwidth but would it matter? Also will an ISP's bigger customers get the preferental treatment as far as priority even though you may pay the same amount of money. Seems like a bad idea to me as well as increasing network overhead. IMHO
Oh yea well I hold a patent on black matte finish. I want money from all PC manufacturers for something they stole from me. Hell this company ought to partner with the RAMBUS people. Whiners!
