Well, you see kids, during Republican administrations, the budget gets shifted from the sciences to defense. This has happened many times over the last 10 years or so, and therefore not much money has bent spent on space research. The space men don't have enough money to keep their space ship in perfect condition, so stuff like this happens. In fact, if space men don't get lots of money, we may never know what else is in the rest of the universe, and we'll be forever alone, killing each other for oil, land, gold and diamonds. YAY.

Add to that the fact that there was usually at least one IDE cable in your way, possibly more, and it WAS an act of God to install ram prior to pc66/100 slots.

A good office suite, at this point in time, depends on how compatible it is with Microsoft's .doc format. Unfortunately we live in a world where technically inferior but commonly accepted software and hardware owns the market.

You're talking about competing on a level playing field. Everyone knows by now that Microsoft can't play ball without creating a hill for them to pitch from. That's why the .doc format is locked down and changes with each new version of Office and Word. Same goes for NTFS..I'm starting to think the file system changes so often not to add features but to create a moving target that's hard to interoperate with (read: kernel modules).

Also, if you think this movie is based in a reality similar to the one we experience today, and therefore expect 3M to NOT have a compound like this, then I guess I need to see what the DoD has cooking. In your world, 3M doesn't have a spiderweb compound, but it's totally plausible that an airborne surfboard with rockets and machine guns has a crazed madman in armor blowing up parts of NYC.

Too bad they left the stupid organic webshooters in. That was a big mistake IMHO. I grew up watching Spider Man on cartoons, on the Electric Company (yeah you old guys probably remember that), and in other stuff. In all the comics, he was a genius that built his own web shooters. The movie took that for granted and just 'gave' him the shooters. Foolish. How can he prove what a science geek he is without building anything? Instead we're left with the impression that he's a fabuloussss costume designer.

    Gay.

I want Spidey with a vulnerability. What if he runs out of web juice? What if one breaks? Yeah, a real superhero vulnerability, one that's technological no less. That's what I expected, and the 'natural' web shooters were a mistake. If they really wanted to give him web shooters, make it a single one, and make his costume with a hole in the you-know-where so he can shoot it. :)

Let me bring something to light. Cutting-edge games are rarely made from big commercial software houses. It may have been true in the past but it's fading.

The problem: lack of innovation. How many first person shooters and mmorpg's do we need? The reason is that the cost of development has risen so sharply, that to recoup the cost of working on games, game houses have to make a sure fire hit. It's not an option to make a flop like Daikatana that 1. brings nothing new to the genre, 2. comes out late, and 3. sucks ass beyond compare. You have to make sure your game will sell.

In this scenario, companies will NOT venture into some new area or create a new paradigm of gaming. You'll get another FPS. You'll get another Quake, another Soldier of Fortune, another Civilization. Why? Because these are sure things. Not to go off on a tangent, but this type of thing has been ruling the music world in America and other countries for the last decade or so. You'll get nothing but more Britney Spears and other disposable stars because the cost of entry is so high, the industry bets on the easy winner. What sold yesterday? Package it up with a new paint job and sell it tomorrow.

No, friend, unfortunately the big game houses won't bring you the hidden nuggets of gaming goodness, unless another Quake or running-through-dungeons-swinging-swords is what you're after. Not to say these are bad things, but games like Uplink (fun and revolutionary) would have never rolled out the doors or made it through a proposal at Valve or Sierra or Activision or (fill in the blank). There are lots of games out there you've never imagined before, and you're missing out because your only source of amusement comes from the shelf at Best Buy.

If you intended to troll, woops, I took the bait, but seriously, can you honestly say that every non-commercial HalfLife and Quake3 mod out there is worse than anything in a bargain bin? They may be commercial GAMES but they're 100% free MODS. All the mod makers are doing is using the engine.
