I rebuilt the rpm from nvidia. Works like a charm of course. I also rebuilt it for the new mandrake kernel 2.4.8-34.1 today. Email chris@+nospam+by-a.com for the rpms.
Because id is cool. They make good games, they support Linux and OSX, and they have a good reason for storing a database of their keys. Actually it's their own database, they don't 'collect' keys from people, they validate keys submitted from clients against their prebuilt database. All they do is check to make sure you're a nice guy and you paid money for their software.
Tram Design released his Generator map for the full version today! Get it at tuxbox.by-a.com or at tramdesign.cjb.net. Also tuxbox has the binaries for linux if you need those to play the test. The new map does NOT work with the test.
P2 400, 320mb PC100 ram, and a cheapo chinese Nvidia Geforce2mx 32meg card. Runs like a champion (the tests). I'll check out the full version when a linux binary is released.
I'm running Mandrake 8.1 with an Nvidia card and it's super solid. Actually it hasn't crashed or locked one time and I play the hell out of it. So I guess your box sucks. Sorry.
AFAIK, it's impossible to generate a real key that works online. Your key is verified at id's master server when you try to join a server. You may generate a valid key (56bit des) when you play single player, but it's not gonna fly online. Do some research on Quake3 being 'cracked' if you want proof. Q3 online was uncrackable, as is RTCW.
Major feature? Yeah right. It's more like a surprising bonus. Just like the fact that it can play DVD's, it's a nice touch but it won't make or break the system. It's all about games. IMHO, backwards compatibility was a good side effect from using the PS1's IO chip and was never intended to boost sales. Although, it was very wise of Sony to make everything PS1 automagically compatible.
Check this out..on the 5th I emailed Bleem because their ordering system was fuxored. I couldn't download the betas so I emailed their sales guy (literally ONE guy). He just now got around to emailing me back with the betas. Here is the full body of his email:

>And here's a newsflash for you: Do you know what >gaming consoles are? They're computational >devices hacked down to run only games.
Newsflash for you, oh short-sighted and short of memory: the PS2 has always been positioned as a computer entertainment system. Yeah it plays games very well, but with Firewire, Ethernet and USB interfaces it's designed for computing also. AOL has a port of their disgusting software and it will be bundled with the ethernet/modem adaptor. If you've seen the full mockup of the PS2, they show a flatscreen monitor, a black keyboard and mouse, etc. Sony wants boxes like these to supplant PC's in lots of homes, and with good reason. If Joe Blow can get his mail, surf the web, and play the hottest games, then the PS2 fits the bill.
That's true. Also keep in mind the first generation of PS1's had heat problems from the internal transformer. Some would get hot and lock..and the first generation of PS2's (which I was unfortunate enough to purchase) also had heat and DVD issues. Nothing's perfect.
You failed to realize that Sony has a huge investment in DVD movies and movies in general. If you buy a PS2 and it has DVD capabilities, chances are you won't buy another piece of hardware to play DVDs. That's good for Sony because it's already eliminating one part of their competition. It's also good for Sony because you'll either be renting or buying DVDs now, and one way or another they'll get a percentage of your cash.
From what I've read, BSD is dying. Don't mean to troll you BSD lovers/users/coders, but it seems that it's harder to get support for BSD than it is for linux.
Your dad and uncles need their pr0n FAST. You can't be so naive as to think that people don't download gigs of it every single day. Also most of you leeched heaps of pr0n when you first got broadband (cmon, be honest) but have probably grown out of that phase by now.
So long as there are big files to download and people wanting to use the phone everytime you start your dialup download, broadband will be necessary.
Thanks for the Flash, Gordon. However in this case I think it's more the record companies' fault. They KNEW what was in their contract. They KNEW they were fucking the band. The band just wanted to sing Sweet Home Alabama to southern white trash at trucker conventions. That's their end of the deal.

Um, there are thousands of ways to die in space, probably more than on Earth. Ever notice how space has no atmosphere? All it takes is one small mistake to wipe out a crew of astronauts. I know a guy who can accidentally break anything in a matter of seconds. Set a few of him loose on a space station/colony and watch the whole thing come crashing down.
And 98% of species are extinct? Wow. So the life on earth right now makes up only 2% of all species that have ever been here. Add to that the fact that we're discovering new species almost daily..how does one calculate that bizarre percentage?
At any rate, we need to learn how to live with one another properly before we make the same mistakes on another pretty rock.
Somehow I doubt the ingestion of DMT will answer that question for you. It may come in one of those acid-fueled delusions where for about 5 seconds, it's all clear to you, the answer to every question you've never had an answer for unwinds to you, and you feel godlike. Then it slips away. Too bad science isn't based on hallucinatory thought.

Smoothest? You must not have played it in 2 player mode. Get a few enemies onscreen and c-h-u-n-k time. It gets about 5fps at times. Terrible.

Why the hell would you need winex? There have been linux clients all along...and they're going to rellease a full version linux client soon.
Restricted communication laws? I thought it was Australia I was reading about all summer long, with the censorship issues and network laws.

Funny as hell.
I think this article pretty much summed it up.

I just want a box that edits Jar Jar Binks out of the film.

Get a linksys cable/dsl router and quit worrying about PPPOE.
Don't forget the net's first killer app:
Pr0n.

..a webserver that can handle more than 100 hits a day.
Anyone got a mirror anywhere?

Ok I tried compiling this stuff on mandrake 8.1 and it kept barfing on me. Anyone know where the packages can be downloaded from?
