    I want to say that they're wrong, consumers not purchasing their products will change their minds about this whole idea. But, sadly, I believe people don't actually care enough to follow through on that and people will end up buying the CDs anyways.

    On a side and off-topic note, I find it halarious that I just saw an ad for Visual Studio .NET on Slashdot.

    It seems to me that if people that it might be over due because it's not due at all. Perhaps no one really wants or needs them right now if ever? Market dictates certain things such as these, and if the market dictates no such want or need, then companies based on these ideas that are not wanted or needed will either adapt or fail.

    Doesn't matter that the employers "has" to let you vote. Georgia where I live for instance is a Right to hire, Right to fire state (which I like.) Sure he can't fire you for voting, but he can fire you for having nose hairs that are just to darn long for his taste if you get my drift. Look, fact is if you want to get ahead in a job, you'll work the long hours, show up early, leave late, so on so forth. If you've got important meetings all day, you're gonna value that job and not vote.

    Well A) it would be a Republic Party, because we are not a Democracy. We use Democratic means to do somethings, but we are not a Democracy.

    and B) Just because the government declares it a holiday, doesn't mean people won't go into work. In the business world, one of the ways you get ahead is by going in when you don't need too. Heck that's how you can get ahead in any job. Then there are fast food and retail outlets that basically never close (I'm currently working at a Chick-Fil-A, I've worked 17 hour shifts many times out of necessity.) Hence, my idea of 24 hrs open, and open on a Sunday, 12am to 12am.

    Aye, but not all states have such provisions in their absentee voting laws. Some people never leave the district and still are unable to vote due to work. I used to have a job that was a 12 hour shift. 7a to 7p, and I was a technician! There there are nurses. 7a to 7p and vice-versa is not uncomon for them ( my mother is one and she work both frequently .) A weekend election day that lasts 24 hours would still make much more sense.

    Another problem that occurs to me is that we don't ID people to vote. That would help eliminate alot of voter fraud, but certainly not all. Why can't we simply look at someone's driver's liscense or state ID card when they come to vote?

    Then there is the issue of the idiots we let vote! Why can't we find out if the voter can pass a simple quiz with questions like: Who was the first President? Which President freed the slaves? What was his political party? Who are your current Senators and who is your current representative?

    In my not humble at all opinion, the biggest problem is that our elections are from 7amto 7pm on TUESDAYS! They need to move the elections to Sundays and open the polls for 24 hours. As it is, alot of people are simply unable to vote because of work and commutes.

    I think I'd rather see Hydrogen Fuel cell vehicles than hybrids. From what I've read, the fuel cell vehicles are more efficient not to mention cleaner. But I guess all of these thing take time, no?

    Ever actually known a Marine? They aren't the big and dumb guys they are made out to be. :-) They are mostly pretty smart guys. The Army on the other hand... ;-)

    This is a very true and very good point. I'm just scared that they'll shove this thing onto my plane and it isn't ready for combat and I have to go into combat and it fails me in the middle of combat. Ouch no?

    Which still brings interesting points up...like how do you detect that you are overshooting or undershooting the target? Currently 1 in 5 rounds is a tracer. But you can't see lasers unless there is something special about this one (I've not really read up on it so I don't know.)

    The AMRAAM and the new Sidewinder are both well worth the money we've spent. Particularly the new Sidewinder. Most air to air engagements (with fighters) occur at close range. Hence an upgrade to our heat seeker has been needed for quite a while.

    As someone who might one day fly the JSF (I'm trying to become a Marine Aviator...I have one of my first interviews next week *crosses fingers*) I'm kind of torn on this whole idea of a laser. The geek in me says that's too kewl! It's like Star Wars or something!

    But then there is that overly logical Marine in me that says sounds unreliably. Much rather have a tried and true missile. This is is going to be very interesting to see when it actually goes into service how well it performs and is used. I could see this project either changing the way the military develops and uses weapons, or eliminating the whole idea for at least 50 years.

    Interstate highways hmm well they were designed for defense originally, so they would fall under that. Both interstates and ATC well, can you say interstate commerce? There is promote the general welfare, which ATC defnitely falls under. Imagine if all of the states had to cooperate for air regulations! It wouldn't happen. That's why you have a federal government, to govern things the affect every state basically at the same time.

    However, subsidizing research? Private companies and private individuals can do research on something if they want (or at least they should be able to, half of anything anyone would want to research is illegal to research) why do they need the government to use its police power to take money from individuals and other companies and give to them to do it?

    Where did the founding fathers mention that it is the government's job to spend money to subsidize research? Really, this all sounds wasteful of taxpayer dollars that could be better spent uh I don't know, how about just not spending it? Or maybe paying back some of the massive debt?

    Essential goods and services:
    Things you need to properly live. Such as food, medical services, clothes and shelter.

    Now, you say that government would end up losing income. Well, you're forgetting something:
    you'd have more money to spend. That means that you would probably end up spending that money you didn't pay in income taxes on other things. Even if you save it, as long as you don't shove your money under a mattress, that money is not stagnant. In a bank it is being loaned for home purchases, starting new businesses, other investments. In stocks it is being used for various business issues. Then stocks, those are goods are they not? Taxed then, are they not?

    Then there is the issue of ill-gotten money, such as money from illegal gambling, black market items, or any mob money. Those monies are not being taxed right now! With a sales tax they would be. Just because you might pay less in taxes under such a system, doesn't mean everyone would. I wouldn't, I'd pay alot more in taxes. My parents would pay alot more. Some of my friends however would pay alot less.

    I know this is a long shot, but instead of raising taxes, how about we cut wasteful spending such tattoo removal programs in san jose, and then lower taxes so people can spend more of the money they earned. And how about we legalize drugs and tax the hell out of them. And how about ditching the income and going to a sales tax on non-essential goods and services so that people can choose when they will and when they won't pay a tax.

    Man, in a perfect world...

    Bringing, up the debate of what defines the OS. I say the kernel is the OS. I say this because one could get a number of items to perform the function os GUI, compiler, and text editor.

    No, people used GNU tools to write an OS called Linux and subsequently to write software for this OS. The only OS GNU has is the unfinished HURD kernel which hasn't exactly had much success for various reasons. Linux is an operating system, Linus Torvalds started the project that created Linux and there for hehas naming rights. He named is Linux. The FSF and GNU project had nothing to do with it's creation short of the tools used for it's creation.
