There was this guy who really wanted to get into my pants. So every time I had a major assignment I'd hang out with the other girls until the day before it was due, then just have him search for me. A few cut and pastes and I got at least a B+ every time.
Who needs a search engine when you've got a push up bra?:)
I just got one of those "Millions of email addresses on a CD" spams. It includes the fax number required to request them.
Anyone in the 240 and 416 area codes that feels like clogging up someone's fax machine with tubgirl and goatse?
Here's the meat of this junk (I removed several hundred asterisks):

Remember when the TRS-80s at Radio Shack had those great little speech cards that would say whatever you typed?
When I was a kid it was a hoot to go in, type a bunch of swear words, clear the screen, then go browse the H-walls until the next little kid came along and typed "Hello".
"#$%^ You, You son of a $%^$ mother $^$^$%. Hello."
Putting knoppix on a hard drive has to be one of the least painful installations of any OS I have seen, on par with WinXPs 'walk away and let me do my thing'.
Except that Knoppix finishes installing in 20-22 minutes on an old Athlon 800. Sweet.:)
Cold turkey is easiest if you wean yourself away from the psychological triggers first.
Change your coffee drinking habits before you stop drinking it altogether.
With smoking, I stopped doing it indoors, whether I was at home or in a public place where it wasn't allowed anyway, it was helpful to get in a habit where I couldn't do it in my comfort zones.
Figure out what routines you have that are typically accompanied by a cup of java and do something to modify them. Even if it means putting off reading the paper till 2 minutes before you have to leave for work and you only have time for a quick sip before you run out the door.
Break the habits and surviving the first 72 hours will be MUCH easier.
And if quitting doesn't work the first time, rest a week or two, and then try again. Don't give up trying and promise yourself you'll try again next year. Push yourself a bit farther each time instead.
Every couple of years since childhood, I've installed NetHack and had a go at it for a bit. Never tried playing a Knight though, until it randomly assigned me the profession yesterday. Seems wearing all that armor around makes one get hungry VERY fast. I starved to death a couple of levels in.
Set it up outside your front door and label it "Retinal Scanner", then hilarity is sure to ensue when curious passersby temporarily blind themselves looking into the thing.
The Sexual Connection: Mating the Wild Way is another book in a similar vein. It skips the whole advice column thing, but delves into some of the weird and interesting things animals (and people) do to procreate.
It's an old book though, so some of the info is outdated (or proven incorrect), and it's not always easy to get a copy.
Actually if you apply sarcasm to each phrase by itself or the statement as a whole it's still inflammatory to artists. If the intent was pro-artist then the phrasing could have been a hell of a lot better.
It warms my heart to know that artists will be getting all the money that's due to them. Musicians always look so poor when I see them on television. Finally, they can afford the lifestyle they deserve.
You ignorant, trolling jackass. The ones you see on television are the rare success stories, typically groomed and media-hyped all the way into a specific market niche.
And even then, the contracts are still far in the publishers favor.
(of course I'll get modded down for this, but that was just asinine.)
Your post reminded me to check the Knoppix site for a new version... and it looks like the project is dead, or at least comatose, due to the current states of patent law.
I didn't say the Chinese were democratic. I said that the Russians are new to democracy, and therefore would probably become mediators between the US and China.... because the Russian/Ex-Soviet people still retain ties to Communist China.
I would think that the next major war would be fought *from* space, at least in the beginning.
Without some form of orbital countermeasures, land based objectives would be sitting ducks for all kinds of mischief... rocks being dropped into the atmosphere, bioweapon packets launched from satellites, etc. etc.
As conflicts go, (and this is just a personal observation), we seem to be stepping away from the larger powers at each other throats and returning to the tribal feuding or guerilla type conflicts.
With the US, former Soviets, and China in space, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Soviets become the mediator between US and Chinese interests. They're relatively new to democracy and still retain some of the old ties of Communism.
It's especially potent to hear these words coming from an author. After all, libraries are "killing" the book publishing industry, aren't they? That would explain why there are so many new mall-sized bookstores opening up every year:)
As a game developer/player, reader, and music fan, I wholeheartedly agree with Card as well. It doesn't matter what industry you are in, there are some people who want something for nothing. But if you give the rest value for their dollar they'll return to you again and again because they want more, and know that rewarding you for your work by purchasing it will most likely result in your being able to provide what they want.
I haven't bought a music CD in ages, and not because I download the music. It's because CDs are overpriced, and I can't walk into a store and browse what I like because the stores carry mostly top40 crap these day. I think I've downloaded maybe 8 CDs in the last year. I now have purchased copies of all of them except one. When I can find a place that can get it in stock in less than 3 months, I'll be picking that one up to.
I want to see publishers get on the technology bandwagon and embrace it, not put a leash on it. Think of how much extra money Showtime could make if 'Dead Like Me' or other content was available as a 2 dollar download from a bit-torrent like P2P setup each week.
Valve's 'Steam' setup is a step in the right direction. In a few months we, as consumers, will see what aspects of the concept need to be tweaked and they will either listen to the buying public or go the way of the dodo and another publishing scheme will take their place.
We're in for a bumpy, ugly ride as corporations and politicians try to keep up to the technology that outpaces their concept of the known world around them. The entertainment industry has become top heavy with "old-school" business practices, and it will either have to roll with the punches or fall on it's face.
The sooner the new marketplace is here, the better.
That's not a troll! It's supposed to be funny. :)
Not very, but still, give him a point for trying!
If there is, I'm going to stick an old fax machine on my land line and wait for the money to start rolling in :)
Doh, would have been funnier if the "post anonymously" took :P

Some people really CAN drive while on a cell phone. If you can't, you should be responsible enough to refrain.
But do they react as quickly to emergency situations? Until you can prove that you do, pull over and park to take that "important" call.

Ever buy something with a UPC code on it? The idea of putting universal codes on merchandise was preposterous a generation ago.
Analog phone lines to digital? Crazy!
Switching to a better mail protocol? The skies are falling!
Make it better, make it easy for Joe user to understand, and you'd be surprised how quickly people will flock to it.
How the heck do you get that far with a Knight?

Then I probably shouldn't tell you that Nethack 3.4.3 is out :)
You can hang that Amulet of Yendor in the empty spot you left for your diploma.
You'll find that requirement on the latest shrink-wrap agreement at your grocery store. Don't buy any corn.

No, when a site says "Closed", I don't typically go hunting for new content on it.

Sounds like you've been reading The Case for the Empire.
:)
Gave me a chuckle
Queer as Who?
