That thing that happened in the 90s with many 3d polygon based games because the hardware was too slow and limited to draw complex enviroments very far, this objects would "pop in" (be drawn on the fly) close enough to the player for him/her to be able to see this. Many games of that era had a "draw distance" setting so those with more powerful PCs can have the object drawing take place further away (eg; draw more of the world pr frame) so this effect is deminished or eliminated from the player's perspective.
