Whoa, where have you been? Wine (uncapitalized) is one of the greatest tools for scoring points with your significant other (or scoring for that matter).
Does anyone know of any reallistic strategies for dealing with one of these babies should it decide its time for a visit to Earth?
As long as you have enough forewarning, you should be able to get a probe to it and nudge the orbit enough to keep it from hitting the earth.
You could explode a nuke near it, or set up a nuclear or solar powered small mass driver on it and have the mass driver change it's orbit.
Perhaps you could even hit it was a high powered laser, not with the intent of melting it, but with the intent of generating gases that nudge the asteroid away.
You don't need to move it much, if you have enough leeway.
On the other hand, if you only have a few days, hijack a nuclear sub and fill it with woman of superior genetics, wait 200 m under the sea and then repopulate the Earth. Mein Furher, I can valk!
Our Volvo is lined with burgundy dead cow, sitting in it is like being swaddled in the loving embrace of bovines, who gave their lives so that you and I could sit comfortably, and have steak. What more could you ask?
Will all banks accept checks with non-magnetic toner? (OCR capable) -- I bought a package by VersaCheck but am nervous about using it for the first time.
I've been using Versacheck with a laser printer and inkjet (Canon BJC-4300) for about a year, I ran out of checks one day and couldn't wait 2-3 weeks for new ones to arrive.
Unfortunately, every Versacheck printed check I've sent out has been accepted by my bank.
I do notice the occasional one get's misplaced in the statement, but the money still gets removed.
Oh well, another registration-required site that I won't be visiting. How about including that info in the story summary, so that we don't have to waste our time clicking on the link?

The Xerox printers I use and support, DocuSP 6180, DocuTech 65 and Sprite Network server are all PS Level 3 compliant, which means they understand PDF's also.

So hire two sets of interns or high school kids. Compare the two. Pretty easy. Twice as expensive to get the data in, but it would be more accurate.
If you had the money, you could hire enough sets of high school kids to get a high=-school-kid-RAID going, that way, you could hot swap the sick ones one and not lose any productivity.
Canada and the U.S. already have an infrastructure for selling directly to consumers via Shop at Home. There's nothing like that in place yet for Europe or Asia.
It seems like it would be trivial to create Lego-compatible plastic bricks. It's not like there's a whole lot to reverse-engineer there. And at the prices Lego sells at, I'm sure another company could undercut them.
It is trvial, MegaBlocks is one of Lego's biggest competitors. Tyco made very good clones at one point, and BestLock has some intriguing themes.
But none of them approach the quality of Lego, Lego pours a lot of money into making high quality molds and using high quality ABS.
If you put Lego in a sealed box, and a clone in another sealed box, a Lego fan can tell the difference by the sound they make clinking together. You can usually feel the difference between Lego and clones, and the clones don't interlock nearly as well.
The best way to stay in Lego is to have kids. Train them from an early age to enjoy Lego, and you're set. My son was two days old when he got his first Duplo. We ramped up to normal Lego when he was 3. He loves to get Lego and we have a great time building the sets together.
Yeap, nearly 4 year old daughter, we play together, though not enough.
When I left home, I made sure my Lego came with me. My parents never had a chance to get rid of it.:)
In an amazing lack of foresight, my sister and I mixed our Lego as children. I haven't asked her about unmixing them, or buying her out. So they stay at my parents.
Oh guys, get ready to flame me for this, but can I ask you a question? I am 22 years old and still thoughly enjoy lego's, is there something wrong with me?
Not at all, you are what is known as an AFOL, Adult Fan of Lego.
I'm 34 and am just getting back into it, though it's expensive as I try to replace all the childhood sets of mine that are in joint custody at my parents.
By the way, I should point out that since we are using sed on Linux boxes, and Linux relies on some FSF-built tools, we should really be calling this "GNU/Lars-o-matic", and anybody who doesn't is spreading evil corporate disinformation. You bastards need to stop stealing all the credit away from RMS, without whom none of this would be possible.
That's taking a very narrow view of computer history, but if you're into such textual fellating of RMS, you might as well textually fellate some of the superstars in computer science, without whom we'd be hashing this discussion out on mimeo'd fanzines with monthly refresh times.
My superior, original sed script will henceforth be called, TurBoLars-O-Gmatic , honoring both Turing and Boole.
Overnight is great, but the best is 3 days in Disneyworld with gramma and grampa, thank you Walt.
Only one kid, though trying for #2 is lots of fun.

No mention of NP, though?
of course, he's a fictional character, right?

The asteroids are pretty easy to handle, they travel in straight lines, they go off one end of the screen and appear on the other, but thois UFOs?
They shoot at you, and sometimes you have to use hyperspace to get away. We need to focus on teh UFO's first.

I thought it was funny, but I guess if you count all the other posts that mentioned this song parody, all none of them.
I think a moderator needs a dictionary for Christmas, to explain what redundant means.

I like the new Mustang styling, it gives a nice homage to the original, especially the side air intakes.

The article expects most of the sales to be to ISP's and such, who will subsidize it for their customers, the old Gillette razor and blade strategy.

I've been using Versacheck with regular Canon ink, not MICR ink.

I've been using Versacheck for about a year, maybe 200 checks, and every one has been accepted and the money taken out of my account.

Interesting to see Marconi inducted the same year as Tesla :)
Yowza, that must have been an awkwards award ceremony.
Though it they both did a dueling duet for accepting the award for inventing the radio it would have been cute.

I've always wanted to see commercially available third party sets using genuine Lego parts.
Have you checked out Brickmania? Third party designs by the guild of bricksmiths. No Star Wars, but Castle stuff, Pirate stuff, and a tank.
