Sure, computers can fool humans for certain tasks, and maybe certain domains of conversation. However, to past the Turing test a computer must be able to fool a human interrogator on questions of ALL topics.
I'm a diehard larswm fan, and also love the look of the new Apple Titanium Notebooks... Could I be running larswm on top of OSX and still be able to run both BSD and Mac apps (specifically, allt eh movie and DVD stuff)?
There was a case in Canada where a man, who claimed to be an alien, thought he was being discriminated on based on that fact. The case went before the courts and the court ruled that since he was an Alien, he had no rights...
What is going to happen to that Survivor-esque game show where the winners would win a trip to Mir? Didn't what ever network already pay 20 million for the rights to do this or something?
The new gameshow should be "put the people on Mir and see how long they are willing to 'sweat it out' before escaping in the escape rockets... last person to bail out, wins..."
I think the only use for this would be to detect whether or not you have fallen out of your chair as a result of "dodging" something in the game you are playing.
Years ago, a friend and I were playing "Stunts" and had built tracks to challenge each other with. In an attempt to dodge an unexpected concrete barrier in the middle of the track, I literally launched myself out of my chair. This device could be used to automatically phone the emergency room in case no one is around.
Has this happened to anyone else playing other games? (Quake, etc?)
Saving up extra hours to take takes off is a pretty good idea in theory, but in the extremes if people try to work 20 hours/day for 4 days straight, and then take the next 10 days off, the office will not be very productive.
1) The person doing that probably won't be doing their best work during those 4 long marathons.
2) If the person isn't there for core hours, they are going to miss meetings, won't be interacting with their peers, etc.
I think that the "day off" version of flex-time would only work if everyone in your team agreed on the day. And if everyone is on the same time, it isn't really flex time anymore!
I haven't seen too many flex-time policies that allowed people to take entire days off. Usually, they are of the "come in early, leave early; come in late, leave late" variety with some rules about what core hours you need to be there. The core hours are when team meetings are scheduled. If people could take entire days off whenever they pleased without much notice, the whole world would go topsy-turvy.
I just attended a WAP seminar last week and the presented said that Google was completely unusuable on WAP devices because the information was presented so poorly.
I haven't seen it in action myself -- can anyone confirm?
I couldn't get the TV outout on my ATI card to work under X. Everything displays fine from the command line, but once I get into X, the TV goes nuts... Does anyone know the proper settings for the TV out to work?
The movie had a good amount of suspense, sure... Scary? Not at all...
The thing about the guy throwing the map away was totally unbeliveable...
The ending had to be the worst though -- all of a sudden, everyone is dead and the credits come up... I would have at least liked to have seen interviews with the same townspeople the kids interviewed to get their reactions after the tapes had been found -- even if they were during the credits or something...

...I could find a warehouse of TI99/4a games... *Drool*
was one that a local bbs was run in back in the 80s. It was a Capt'n Crunch cereal box with an 8086 running Citadel 86. :)

This was posted ages ago... Old news.
I'd like to see a portable version of the TI99/4A with all of it's games installed.... Any takers?
Or maybe a multiplayer version of "Tunnels of Doom"... *droool*

Does anyone know if EFF is going to build a bigger/better DES Cracker to go after the DES-III contest?
