Not necessarily. Sure speed bumps are common, but usually incremental. Doubling performance over a single generation is not too common in desktop computing these days. I was going to buy another laptop next month since I always have a spare and I just retired my spare. But was planning on going with the new Macbook or an Air for their slightly smaller form factor. Now it looks like I'll might be opting for another 13" MBP.

He's not saying that Half-Life is retro or that no one wants to make Half-Life 3, he's saying that no one at Valve wants to make a HL3 that is just more of the same. Valve seems to pride itself on gameplay innovations, and if they can't come up with something totally unique and creative for HL3, they aren't going to just put it out as-is.

That's not what I was saying. I was saying that they backed in a lead in to a sequel into the plot. Maybe you didn't play HL2, but it ended at a major enem installation and it was made clear that the next step was to travel to where the invaders were based from. Then they just left it. It's an unfinished, incomplete story that promised to resume. And Gabe is saying they probably wont and those that want the conclusion are just delusional little shits. But Valve is a Company, not a Person and while an Author might not be able to finish his work due to illness or death, Valve is a company, is very alive and has hundreds of employees and contractors and can hire more as needed.

I don't think they care either. It was never meant as a formal boycott, just that I don't buy their games much anyway. However, they made lots of money on HL, and will make even more money on HL if they can be bothered to release the sequel they wrote into the plot. And this shit about Terry Prachett or whoever is ridiculous. An Author is one guy who has so much time in which to do his life's work. Valve is a company of hundreds and can hire more people to produce their products. So dishing on fans as such just comes off as really dickish.

What awesome games? I'm still waiting for a reason to buy a PS4 and so far the new game releases from 2014 and 2015 are shit-tier. Best thing I've seen so far is Mass Effect 4, which will be out... sometime before 2018... maybe. If it weren't for the release of the Mass Effect bundle last summer, I probably wouldn't be playing anything right now. The Last of Us is the only thing that's tempted me, but I hear the Multiplayer on that is pretty crappy so have decided to pass on that for now since it sounds like I'll just be doing that Single Player anyway -- so why bother shelling out $400 for that? Keep in mind that I've already played Bioshock infinite, Borderlands 2, Dead Space 3 and Dead Island Riptide (god awful pile of shit) on my PS3 before PS4 was even released.

So I'm curious where this backlog of awesome games are, or what you mean by awesome games, because right now, I can't think of any. But I'd like to know of any that might be worth my heading out and getting a PS4. I make occasional pop-ins at Gamestop to see the new releases, but so far nothing is tempting.

I always assumed that we'd see HL3 when they came out with their Source 2 gaming engine. Now Gabe's talking like HL is "retro" and the article makes it sound as if Valve has no intention to make new games that are single player. Personally, after reading that article, I hope they don't release a new HL. Gabe comes off as a major asshole who forgot that they set up the whole ending of HL2 as a segue to a sequel and is now acting like anyone who wants them to finish their story is a sorry ass loser. So fuck them. I don't buy many games, and haven't bought a Valve game since Portal2 and will make damn sure that's my last Valve purchase ever unless HL3 is released and they stop talking about their customers like they are worthless trash who are idiots for wanting a finished story when left with a cliff hanger.

Is it that they want to kill competition or is it that they want Uber to abide by the same laws and regulations and pay the same taxes and fees that they do? Is it so annoying that Uber is being punished for not abiding by the laws? If you feel so, then you are an anarchist and opposed to a society based on law. Because only an anarchist sees no value in the rule of law. These laws aren't put into place to restrict competition, as much as they are for consumer protection. Why wont Amazon support AppleTV? While the 1st gen Apple TV didn't do too much for me, since buying a new AppleTV last year, I've almost all but stopped using Amazon Streaming because I can't be bothered to switch over to PS3 just to watch a couple TV shows on Amazon they don't have on Netflix. The Man in the High Castle pilot was the sole exception over the last couple months. And the "recommended" way to watch Amazon Streaming on Apple TV is to use AirPlay -- a BS proposition, since you're streaming from the internet to one device, then locally restreaming to the AppleTV -- way to clog your network. Perhaps I should cancel my Prime Membership when it comes up -- I'm not buying so much off Amazon these days and not using their streaming service at all since buying my new AppleTV unit.
