Betamax was an excellent format for broadcast quality on site cameras (as stated in the article)... Beta is also a good format, but not nearly as good as betamax
ok, so i see the mail man dropping off your "username/password" or worse yet it is emailed to you.
i am running for congressman, i go in your house and hold a gun to your head... VOTE FOR ME NOW DAMN IT! DO IT! then you vote for me, and of course i shoot you anyways (you are gullible... did you really think i was going to let you go?!)
anyways, there has to be voting places... publically monitored.
this point has been brought up 20,000 times so i'll try not to rant too much... if you can play it, and listen to it, you can record it.
sure you can't go digital to digital, but a couple good 24/96 digital to analog converters will make your copy sound nearly exact (if not completely exact)... if *1* person has the technology to copy the sound professionally (with no loss) into a digital medium, then everyone might as well have it, because the second that 1 person distributes the file, it is out there for everyone. (this includes they guy that works at the cd press shop and has access to the masters)
you have a short attention span... there is a different between
o'reilly is brilliant
and...
o'reilly is a brilliant catalyst.
i agree with you 100%... he does EXACTLLY what you say, and he does it better than anyone else (brilliantly i might say). i riles you all up until you are so mad you just have to watch just so you can disagree with SOMEONE. that is his show: controversy, and you are one of the millions of fish who have taken the bait. sit back and think about why you are mad, then respond.
wow, violence sells? controversy sells? way to go salon for horridly covering a moot issue.
games have ratings that classify what age levels should play them. the goverment and parents groups got that done. GTA3 is rated "M". the parents that care won't let their 13 year old play the game.
o'reilly is a brilliant catalyst... he knows his topics very well, and the arguements for both sides. no matter what you say, he'll have the perfect rebuttle ready. donahue, go home. these shows are ONLY about controvercy and it sickens me that they still argue about these topics that were solved a long time ago.
all through middle school and high school i had a ~40% homework average in algebra through calc 2. i also had a ~97% test average to make my B- or C+... i got the whole "you aren't applying yourself speil" but i DID know the material. i was just a lazy fuck and didn't do homework. then i go on to college... homework isn't graded and suddenly i have straight A's.
can not grading homework WORK for a middle school student? or will they all just not do homework and fail?
i have always hated the learning process in math for that very reason...
sorry to do this and seem arguementative: 2 of your reasons are based on money... if you can afford a mowbot, you can afford *$5* to some neighborhood kid that will use his own lawnmower and gas... (wear and tear on your mowbot would probably be equal, plus you would have to put the money up front just to HAVE it!)
so money as a reason: NO.
next: navigation. if you want to control your lawmower, PUSH IT. if you want a radio control lawnmower, those are available. the reason to have this mowbot is unattended mowing.
so navigation as a reason: NO.
now the vacation one is interesting... yes you are gone for a month, and being able to go to mymower.com and send it out would be nice. downside: you would have to leave it out in your yard with a power source (battery) that will probably die by month end. also because after you say "MOW MY LAWN" it has to be outside or able to get outside to mow it and go around your yard. what i'm getting at: someone is going to steal your lawnmower. solution: GPS TRACKING! now we have a $2,000 lawnmower that is going to get stole, that needs to be manually overridden to work right, just so we can save $5 and help a hard working kid make a few bucks.
so old in fact there there are commercial products available already that DO navigate on their own.
and other than the slashdot 'contect everything to the internet' mentality, WHY do i need my lawnmower hooked up to the internet?
if you say something like 'to get blade spin data and average grass length' or something idiotic like that, well you could just USB enable it, and download the data when you were finished. a 'mowbot' should not be required to be controlled.
this is old news
here is a link to the setae

watch out for the syntax
== is comparison.
= is assignment.
NO front page postings during the world series this year!
BETA != BETAMAX

if so, i'll keep shelling out the $50 a month for unreliable pacbell dsl.

they did this with the signing gorilla 5 years ago. ./ editors: just because the website says it was posted today doesn't mean it is fresh news.
also, just because the website says it was posted last week doesn't mean you shouldn't post it front page just because you missed it.
how can child molesters bankrupt children?? charge them money for the candy they entice them with?

[insert cultish praise to carmack here]
there is a button on the underside... you have to press it to activate the gyro movement. otherwise it works just like a normal mouse.
we've had one of these at work for 2 years now, they've been out longer than that.
slashdot should be ashamed of their blatent front page ads. was it really worth it taco?!
in my opinion the only real demand for this is at home prosumers...
professionals will either use premier or a home grown system.
normal consumers will just use the shitty software package included with their camera.
what am i going to do with my other hand? .....!#%!#%!^!@#%$!%#
this is the greatest idea EVER!!!
