There's a difference between forcing a company to change their ways AND fining them out of existence.

Microsoft should be punished for some of their monopolistic tactics. But this fine is excessive.

  8. EU Power on EU Fines Microsoft $613 Million, Officially · · Score: 1

The story here is how much power the EU has gained. The fine on Microsoft is extremely high (over 10% of cash reserves.)

This appears to be an Anti-American fine.

The EU could still enforce all of the other restrictions without the confiscatory fine.

We went to Dave & Busters this weekend in Houston. I think the card system is a scam for two reasons. First, you end up with unusable cards with 1.1 credits on them. And Second, you have no idea how much you just spent on a game. We still had fun playing Daytona 500. You just can't replicate a game like that in your home.

The Check E Cheese near us has gone to 1 token per game. It is a much better deal. BUT, they have only 1/5 as many games.

I still don't understand what Overture is getting for $140 million. Isn't Overture in the pay for placement business and not the search engine business. Has someone told this to management? This seems like a mistake. I guess I need to send them a used copy of F'd Company.

Recently there was an article about a metal plate used to charge batteries. You simply laid your cellphone or pda or whatever on the plate and it recharged. I don't see why there couldn't be a metal plate on the ground. The vaccuum cleaner rolls on top of it and is able to recharge.

  15. How about the ZIRE? on Gateway To Use Corel Over MS For Office Suite · · Score: 1

The new Palm Zire may be a case where competition is not working. Palm and Pocket PCs are heading in the opposite directions. While Pocket PCs are adding more functions, getting better screens, and adding more memory, Palms are going backwards (Sony is the exception, of course). Microsoft is kicking Palm's butt. Palm is about to be a boiling frog! They should do the honorable thing and sell out to Sony.
