I wouldnt be at all supprised if a licesence agreement changes/appears which states that Microsoft may withdraw money from your account at any time if they even suspect you of breaching copyright agreements (think DRM, windows product activation codes)

Actualy if you think about the eneries involed a simple calculation reveals that the chances of even one molecule being ionised is so slim unless you press your head next to a base station.
and did anyone else notice that new EU arrest warrent which means you can be extradited anywhere in the EU automaticaly even if it isnt a crime where you were arrested.

With any comercial product I am parting with money (obviously). If I pay a cleaning company to clean somthing, and they do a bad job, I will complain and either get refund or the job done properly. Why should buying software be different.
If however I go out and find a vacuum cleaner in a skip or somthing and it doesnt work then do I really have a reason to sue the skip owner?
AND they can affort to ensure it doesnt happen.. Kinda like GPL software in goverments

I hate to say it, but the Debian Package system solves all your criticisms in one go. Dependencies are well done and strict, and it will even manage/etc for you
Since DeCSS has been around longer than the dmca how can the dmca affect it? Strikes me as a little unfair if it can.. kinda like moving goalposts in a football match or somthing
try xine and the dvd nav plugin. It works amazingly and I prefer it to my windows dvdplayers. The only dvd It has had problems with was the menus on the futurama disks.
Does sony count as a "big player"? Because they had a few products in their "VIAO" range based upon crusoe chips. (and damm nice they were too)
When films are labled as "100$ Million on special effects" where does most of that money go? On rendering hardware or what?

nah u just build it in as a special kernel option like you can run java with "misc" binary support you can too with win32 :-)
