  1. ugh on BBC To Revive Doctor Who Next Year · · Score: 1

no one would be more happier then me if these were true, dr who is easily the greatest science fiction ever.

however, Farscape is a really good show, and is easily catching up to the quality of Dr Who (already surpassing startrek/starwars/everything else)

  2. i'm afraid on The Hard Business of Selling Hard Drive Platters · · Score: 1

i'm constantly afraid that computer makers will go the way of american automobile. designs that are purposfully faulty so they fail and you have to buy them again in 3 years. A 3 year old computer is still a pretty damn fast computer in the office environment, this has dramatically decreased the need for companies to by new computers (a p3? send that one over to tech support). although, with dell now offering a 4(!) year warranty, hopefully quality will continue to prevail.

  3. public radio on Blogspace vs. NPR · · Score: 1

  5. this is stupid (real world example) on Spoofing P2P Networks as Marketing Plot · · Score: 1

OK, they got me. I love No Doubt, and purchased their two previous CDs. So I downloaded "Rock Steady" (well before it was released) planning on buying it when it hit stores, and it was GOD AWUL. So guess what, I didn't buy it.

Come to find out the version I had was bad.

By the time I realized this however, I had already heard more then I wanted off the radio. I downloaded the two singles off the album and thats that.

So congrats to radio execs, you've lost another sale :-p.

  7. maybe we're missing something. on Distributed Computing World Climate Simulation · · Score: 1

people have pointed out that you can't extrapolate a 50 year prediction from 50 years of data. I think its more likely that they're using the data from the last 1000 years ("The increase in surface temperature over the 20th century for the Northern Hemisphere is likely to have been greater than that for any other century in the last thousand years" from http://www.ipcc.ch/pub/tar/syr/004.htm).

So, they're PRETENDING like their in 1950, then using all that data to predict 50 years into the future (which, we know of course), then, based on whatever prediction is most accurate, using THAT to predicate the NEXT 50 years (which we don't know)

its a little vauge, but i think that might be what they're doing.

  11. here's my take on Blizzard Rains on Bnetd Project · · Score: 1

first, just because its in an EULA doesn't mean its law. if you agreed to be gfraziers butt slave i doubt they could make it hold in court

blizzard markets their games based on the multiplayer expierence. but (contrary to what some of you state) there is no TCP/IP option for starcraft or war3. You are *forced* to use battle.net in order to play on the internet (for free). this is not the case with, say, quake3 (which still manages to implement CD-keys).

battle.net sucks. its laggy, crowded, everyone plays realy stupid maps, everyone cheats, etc etc ETC. my view is, i've bought the game, now its mine to do with as I PLEASE. if that means i'd rather play on bnetd then crappy battle.net, so be it. they're stupid for expecting me to pay for a game, then log onto their server so i can look at their ads. no one is making them host battle.net

do you people realize that when you link to drudge, you're helping advertise the fact that internet "news sites" are complete and utter garbage. since slashdot is included in this group (and probably one of the better examples of one) you probably shouldn't expect people to take you seriously if you link to drudge.

  15. Everything farscape. on Farscape Video Game · · Score: 1

A game? I don't know. A great television show doesn't translate into a great game (or a great movie for that matter), I'll end up playing it because i'm a fan, but unless it comes out on Gamecube I won't be forking over any money.

As for the show itself, no new eps in the US until April, but news eps will be showing in the UK any day now. And apparently, they're already showing where hebrew is the primary language, as I've aquired the latest ep with Hebrew subtitles (which look completly alien and complement the show rather well).

I can't stand the way the show is scheduled. Technically season 3 hasn't ended yet, with 3 or 4 more eps to go, then I guess season 4 starts right away (why do they DO that?) This latest ep sets up a premise for the next few but basically it stands on its own, and frankly wasn't that good. Hopefully the season finale will be better. Until then I'll be downloading 500mb eps on my 56k. Why do they wait months to air episodes they already have completed? Febuaray is sweeps after all.

And yes, Zhaan is still very much dead and will probably stay that way.

Oh, and no sign of Stark but he's still in the credits.

Until you have a game that is as complex as the best MUDS, its really a waste of stime. So far, i've heard that WoW will PvP protection and you wont loose anything when you die. sound like any other hack and slash games they've made (cough diablo1 diablo2 cough)

  18. Yeah if only this this and that... on Sbox Homemade Console · · Score: 1

As soon as I somehow get a spare AMD Duron 850mhz, i'll use my current p3 550 (which can just barely emulate snes games).

his site is a bit slim on the specifics (to say the least!!).

someone mentioned "its like an xbox with a worse video card" you dont need a good video card to play nes/snes (just lots and lots of processing power.)

Another thing, why the 30 gig harddrive!!! All the roms/mp3s/movies you're gonna play are from CD, a 5 gig drive would work just as well.

Waiting for windows to boot everytime you want to play mario bros cant be fun either. Back when I used to use emulators they were all dos. Theres also no reason why you couldn't shell multiple emulator for the same system (depending on what flavor you like).

    Anyhow, this guy is hardcore.
