Makes sense. There is really no reason to release the game as early as last month or even December. They really have no competition (next-gen FPS) other than Doom3, which won't show up until late next year. On top of that, they are just slightly too advanced for the current hardware out there. I mean, it appears that top-of-line hardware is required to even play the game at an acceptable rate. $400 dollars vid cards should never be *required* for a game. And don't think nVidia isn't heavily involved, either.
This is all marketing. The truth is, HL2 will have a better market 6 months down the road than in December. There will be more hype and more people woul can afford the HW to play it.
... that having your/home directory trashed and losing all your settings on a single-user, *nix-based machine is just as bad as having to format/reinstall your MS OS. (This is for home/personal use - any large, competent business should have a recent ghost image ready to go and a backup solution for user data.)
Having to leave the application you're working with, to me, constitutes a "convoluted workaround." That said, I do exactly as you describe (without a batch file) to make the few PDFs I need.
That's actually not a bad idea. If they could combine this with that new BIOS that get you a boot-up in less than a second, you'd have something there. If you could copy the game CD images to your harddrive, you could boot a bare-bones Linux with a desktop full of game links. Clicking on them would reboot the PC from that image (which would load *much* faster than from the CD) and drop you right into the game. Quitting would reboot you back to the OS. Of course, there would also be an icon for a *full* OS, for when you need to get some work done. I think you could do some nifty stuff with this. Though I'm not sure how much better it would be than just installing the games and running them the way we do now...
It appears that MS's claims may be valid. MSFreePC.com offers a way to "click to join" the class-action lawsuit, but MS argues that all submittals must be signed, and such. The web-site is definitely in poor-taste, but it may very well be illegal as well.
I always assumed that after a massive drop like this, all the investors who wanted to short, do so, buying up the necessary stock to cover their options. This increase in buying drives the price back up a bit. Maybe?
Well, one could argue that Dell has developed some very successful technologies that relate to supply management. Perhaps they look for large, stable markets, and apply new management technologies to make them more efficient and stable.
If I were a telemarketer, this list wouldn't appeal to me at all as a source.
I don't know. The list could be useful in determining what level of telemarketing to use.
Pick a random phone number, run it through the list:
- No match? - Put your new employee on it.
- Match? - Put you most obnoxious, never-take-no-for-an-answer marketeer on it.
I don't know the industry, but that might be useful.

Come on now, let's try to at least look a little before making stupid claims. The nForce3 motherboards have been shipping for a while now.
You have many questions, and although the process has altered your consciousness, you remain irrevocably human. Ergo, some of my answers you will understand, and some of them you will not. Concordantly, while your first question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also irrelevant.
Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden to sedulously avoid it, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably, here.
1) Go to an Anandtech review 2) Click on "Print this article" link at bottom of page 3) Read the review in one page with no ads
It helps to have a decent browser (ala Firebird), as the "print article" link is a java pop-up window. You can force it to a new tab with the correct settings.
They obviously put a large chunk of change in that epileptic-spasm-inducing promo video. Sadly, they should have also proofed it a little better as they claim to have "NVIDEA" graphics.
Okay Rob, we can't have/. meta stories about broken moderation, bitch slapping, and abusive editors, but we can have meta stories about selling t-shirts?
It's called "running your website the way you want to." Don't like it? Get your own website, get 3/4 million members, then do whatever the hell you want.
A little self-promotion like this doesn't hurt, but I sure as hell don't want to see a half-dozen stories a day about people whining about unfair moderations to their posts.
Supported, yes. Playable at 30+ FPS? No?

I think you should avoid going to a school with an innocent-until-proven-guilty policy
Ok people, that's at least the second time I've seen this statement. INNOCENT-UNTIL-PROVEN-GUILTY is a GOOD thing.
OT & FYI: There's a nifty Mozilla/Firebird extension that makes all text URLs into hyperlinks. HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, mailto, etc...
Here's even a link.
I bet there's a cute message if you convert the binary to ascii.
Yep, it reads: "Don't forget to drink your Ovaltine!" =)

I can't tell a bit of difference between the two (linear vs logarithmic).
